Chapter 33
I turn off the lights and the room is left illuminated only by the orange glow of the fireplace. I slowly pull the blankets aside and carefully lie down, completely rigid while staring at the ceiling, trying to ignore the warmth of Celine’s body so close to mine, her sweet scent slowly wrapping around me and the way my wolf seems to relax immediately the moment he feels her beside us.
I barely turn my head to watch her sleep.
Her cheeks are pink, her blonde hair messy across the pillow and her lips slightly parted while she breathes slowly. And then, as if she could feel me even asleep, she starts shifting little by little beneath the blankets until she finally moves closer
to me.
And hugs me.
Goddess.
I have been with hundreds of she-wolves and I never slept beside any of them. I never wanted to. I could never stand having someone invading my space after sleeping with them. But Celine’s arms around my body feel… dangerously good.
And when she curls herself even closer against my chest… to hell with everything!
I carefully settle her between my arms and slowly close my eyes when I feel how perfectly her small body fits against mine. as if it had been made to be exactly there.
I have never wanted anything as much as I want Celine.
And now more than ever I understand my father climbing to the third floor every night.
Because after this… honestly I do not think I will ever be able to sleep alone again.
Celine
I never liked winter because I was always cold in the small servant room where I lived inside the pack house. I also did not have warm clothes and it was normal to wake up early with stiff muscles from spending the entire night in the same position trying to preserve a little heat beneath old thin blankets. That is why, when I wake up and a pleasant warmth completely surrounds my body, a strange feeling of happiness slowly moves through me,
I am not cold. I am not in that old damp room.
I am in the kingdom’s castle, in a huge warm bed where a few seconds ago I was dreaming that I was hugging Bastian.
My eyes fly open.
My cheeks immediately burn when my mate’s scent hits me fully and it takes me barely a second to understand that I was not dreaming at all. I am actually hugging Bastian. My face is resting against his chest, my legs tangled with his and one of his arms completely wrapped around my waist in such a possessive way that I am practically trapped against him.
And honestly… I do not want to move.
I slowly swallow while trying to breathe normally. The room remains dark and silent, barely illuminated by the orange glow of the fireplace. I can feel the warmth of Bastian’s body through the soft fabric of his shirt and the slow steady rhythm of his breathing beneath my cheek. It feels good.
My wolf shifts softly inside me, comfortable, calm and completely relaxed between our mate’s arms. And that only makes the warmth slowly spreading through my chest even worse.
I barely lift my head to look at him better and my heart pounds hard inside my chest.

Bastian is still asleep. His brow is no longer furrowed, his shoulders seem relaxed for the first time since I met him and part of his dark hair falls messily over his forehead. He looks… different like this. Younger.
More human.
And that is far more dangerous for my poor heart than the cold stare of the crown prince. Because now I perfectly understand why so many she-wolves at court were looking at him last night as if they wanted to devour him alive
Goddess. My mate is absurdly attractive.
And he is mine.
I had never been possessive over anyone. In fact, this is the first time I have ever felt something like this and honestly I did not like at all the way those women looked at Bastian last night. I did not mention it or make any comments about it: 1 pretended not to notice while they smiled and searched for any excuse to stand too close to him.
But I did notice.
And maybe that was one of the reasons I stopped to go back to where they were and clearly tell them I did not want them near me. It was not a lie when I said I did not want a court following me everywhere, but the truth was something else.
I did not want them here looking at my mate that way.
My chest tightens a little remembering it and I end up curling even closer against Bastian’s body. His arms are still around me even asleep and that creates a warm and strangely satisfying feeling inside me. I allow myself to hug him tighter and even absentmindedly slide my nose against his chest while slowly inhaling my mate’s scent.
Mint, cedar, and leather.
Mine.
Goddess.
Goddess… now I perfectly understand why Lycans are so territorial.
Bastian’s hand on my waist applies a little more pressure and pulls me even closer to him. I barely lift my head when there is practically no space left between our bodies and swallow hard against the knot forming in my throat when he slowly opens his eyes. His brow furrows instantly, hardening his masculine features even more along with that dangerous expression that seems to follow him even just after waking up, but it lasts only a second. Little by little his face relaxes and he remains watching me silently for long seconds without looking away from me.
My heart starts pounding harder inside my chest.
It scares me that he might be bothered by the embarrassing position we woke up in.
“Good morning, my luna. Did you sleep well?” He finally says with that deep, rough voice of someone freshly awake that completely wraps around me and I silently thank the Goddess that he seems to be in a good mood and not upset like I imagined when I saw him open his eyes.
“Good morning, Bastian. I slept well, thank you.”
I wait for the moment when he moves away from me to get up, but he does not. He stays there, watching me attentively while his fingers absentmindedly move over my waist above the fabric of my pajamas.
“Forgive me for last night. I will not leave you alone again.” His voice lowers a little while he keeps looking at me as if trying to decipher something in my face. “Does it bother you that I lay down to sleep beside you? I can have another bed brought in.”
I quickly shake my head and, before thinking about it too much, cling a little closer to his body.
“I do not want another bed. I have never slept this well before and I feel like my wolf is a little stronger today. I think feeling
