The Second Chance Of The Rejected Moon (Celine and Bastian) novel Chapter 51

Chapter 51

Tanner was waiting for Christian in the living room of the pack house. He had showered, shaved, and dressed in his finest clothes in the hope of impressing the woman who should have been his Luna

His hair still held traces of moisture, and the fresh scent of soap lingered on his skin, but none of it managed to ease the tension pressing against his chest.

Seated in one of the armchairs, he absentmindedly watched the flames crackling in the fireplace while the silence in the room became increasingly uncomfortable.

As he waited for the new Alpha, he took out his phone and informed his father that he no longer had any reason to remain in the Blood Moon Pack and that he would return to the Blue Moon Pack in a few days. Before that, he needed to take care of a few matters in the kingdom.

The reply arrived almost immediately.

“Return to the pack immediately.”

Tanner let out a breath through his nose.

“I’ll come back once I’ve settled my business in the kingdom.”

He set the phone on his leg, convinced the conversation was over, but only seconds later the screen lit up again.

“You are my only son and heir. It is not worth getting yourself killed by the prince over a female who no longer belongs to

you.

Tanner froze.

His jaw tightened as he reread the message a second time. Of course his father knew. He always found out everything eventually. He knew Tanner had tried to form an alliance with the Millers and had probably also figured out that his presence there had nothing to do with politics. Even so, Tanner had never told him the details of what had happened between Celine and the prince.

Not even he knew how to explain that disaster.

He slipped the phone into the inner pocket of his coat and picked up the glass of brandy he had poured a few minutes. earlier. The cold crystal brushed against his fingers as he watched the amber liquid sway gently inside. He took a long drink. The alcohol slid down his throat, leaving behind a familiar burn that did nothing to loosen the knot in his stomach.

He was nervous, anxious, and restless. For the first time in a long while, he did not know exactly what to expect or how he would be received when he arrived in the kingdom.

The prince had ordered him to remain in charge of the pack until a new Alpha could be found, and he had carried out every one of those instructions. He had maintained the pack’s stability, reorganized the warriors, and prevented internal conflicts. In theory, he had no reason to worry.

But theory and reality rarely walked side by side.

He was about to begin a journey of nearly twenty-four hours to the kingdom without having been invited to the castle. driven by a need he did not even want to examine too closely. He needed to see Celine. He needed to speak with her. He needed to see with his own eyes that she was still there.

He would come up with a believable excuse.

He would inform the prince about the actions he had taken while leading the pack and use the opportunity to present himself at the castle without raising suspicion. It was an imperfect plan, but it was the only one he had.

He finished the brandy in a single swallow and set the glass on the low table The sound of crystal against wood echoed softly through the room. Then he rested his forearms on his knees and stared at the front door while waiting for Christian to return, trying to ignore the uncomfortable feeling that he was about to do something monumentally stupid

When Christian arrived at the hospital to ask about Thomas, the receptionist informed him that he had been discharged earlier that morning.

Christian thanked her for the information and returned to his vehicle before driving toward the eastern side of the pack territory. Thomas was a warrior who had lost his entire family when he was only a fourteen-year-old pup. The attack on the pack had been brutal. Several families died that night, and the boy had been one of the few survivors. Since then, he had grown up far too quickly, forced by circumstance to learn how to live with a loneliness that never truly left him.

He was a Beta by birth, but he had chosen to enroll in the Gamma academy with a single goal: to become one of the best warriors in the pack and protect others so that no one would ever suffer a tragedy like the one that had destroyed his own family. For years, he had trained to the point of exhaustion, earning a reputation for discipline and efficiency that even the most seasoned warriors respected.

When the new Alpha parked in front of the wooden house, he noticed the lights glowing behind the windows and a colum of white smoke slowly escaping from the chimney before disappearing into the cold night air. The front yard was clean and well maintained, with neatly trimmed bushes and cleared pathways despite the recent storm. The house was small and single-story, but welcoming. The paint looked fresh, and the wood appeared well cared for, something that caught Christian’s attention considering Thomas lived completely alone.

He stepped out of the vehicle, pulled his coat closed over his chest to protect himself from the icy wind, and climbed the porch steps. The wood creaked softly beneath his boots. He knocked twice on the door and waited. When no immediate response came, he knocked again. As he waited, he glanced toward one of the windows and caught sight of Thomas moving through the house.
