The Second Chance Of The Rejected Moon (Celine and Bastian) novel Chapter 69

Chapter 69

She stands in front of us with her gaze fixed on the floor before saying,

“Breakfast will be ready in the dining room shortly. Your Highness”

I don’t even look at her. If do, I’ll see the terrified expression on her face, and I’m already sick of that.

“Have Luna Celine’s breakfast brought up to the chambers and light the fireplace

She nods.

“As you command, Your Highness.”

“You may leave.”

The young Omega bows quickly and practically flees the office.

I turn my attention back to my Beta as he picks up a cup of coffee.

“Thomas, tell the prince what Alpha Tanner told you.”

Unlike the others. Thomas doesn’t reach for the cups. He simply crosses his arms and fixes his eyes on me.

Tanner came to see me at the pack hospital after Luna Celine and you had left. He asked me a few questions about the conversation we’d had.

He leans back in the armchair as he continues.

“I didn’t tell him anything, and he left somewhat annoyed. Though, to be honest, he became even more upset when he saw me arrive here after training.

“What questions did he ask?”

Three pairs of eyes settle on Thomas as he seems lost in his memories.

And I begin to grow angry.

Because he’s taking too long.

Time that I should be spending with Celine.

“He asked what my relationship with her was, how long I’d known her, whether I knew her likes, and whether I planned to come to the castle afterward. He even wanted to know if I’d been offered a position here because I took care of her that night in the forest.

Thomas frowns slightly.

“I didn’t answer anything because I didn’t think it was appropriate for a foreign Alpha to ask those kinds of questions about another man’s Luna. Of course, afterward, one of the pack warriors told me that he had rejected Luna Celine when he discovered she was his destined mate and that he now deeply regretted it.”

Silence settles over the office.

Only the crackling fire in the fireplace and the steady drumming of rain against the windows can be heard. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee still hangs in the air, and across from me. Jack sets his cup down on its saucer with an increasingly

grim expression. Alaric remains sprawled across the sofa, one leg crossed over the other and his arms resting on the backrest, but I know my Beta far too well to be fooled by that relaxed posture. The slight tension in his jaw and the rhythmic tapping of his fingers against the armrest tell me he’s just as irritated as I am

Thomas, for his part, remains seated with his back straight and his arms crossed over his chest, maintaining the composure of a warrior accustomed to taking orders.

And ever since Alaric mentioned Tanner Blackwood’s name this morning, an unpleasant feeling has continued to grow inside me.

Because those weren’t questions asked out of courtesy

They were the questions of a man incapable of accepting that he had lost something he never knew how to value

“I assume that when he saw you this morning, he approached you again.”

Thomas nods.

เ

“That’s right, Your Highness. He was quite direct. He asked me whether Luna Celine had already been marked, whether you and your father treated her well, and whether she was being properly cared for. Just like before, I didn’t tell him a single thing. And Alpha Christian, upon hearing Tanner’s questions, practically shoved him aside and threatened to throw him ou of the castle himself if he dared do anything stupid.

That last part manages to draw a smile from me.

Jack even lets out a quiet chuckle while Alaric shakes his head in amusement.

“It seems Celine’s uncle has even less patience than I do,” my Beta mutters.

“That’s concerning.” Jack replies calmly before taking another sip of coffee.

Truthfully, the answers I’m looking for won’t come from the idiot who now regrets rejecting my mate.

They’ll come from Christian Caldwell.

What irony.

What Tanner Blackwood despised became my reason for waking up happy every morning.

What he considered a misfortune. I consider the greatest gift the Goddess could have granted me.

And now that I finally have her….

I won’t allow anyone to disturb her peace, nor approach her with any intentions other than kneeling before her.

My fingers tap the armrest of the chair once before I fix my gaze on Thomas.

“I want Celine’s security doubled. In the castle, in the hallway outside our chambers, in the training room, and whenever she’s outside. I don’t want you leaving her side for even a second, Beta Thomas, or I’ll decorate the castle walls with your intestines.

Jack snorts and takes another sip of his coffee as though this were a completely normal conversation.

Alaric rolls his eyes.

Thomas, however, doesn’t seem intimidated.

The corner of his lips lifts in an almost invisible smile before he relaxes back against the sofa once again.
