The Second Chance Of The Rejected Moon (Celine and Bastian) novel Chapter 78

Chapter 78

Thomas seems to immediately understand what is going on with that group of she-wolves and how much enjoy it when they’re far away from me.

Thomas, please tell them that I’m busy today and that I don’t need them. Tell them to go to the southern part of the pack and make a detailed list of everything the new school and the new hospital need.”

My mate nods and smiles proudly.

“That’s my girl, sweetheart.”

Thomas nods as well and turns on his heel to leave, but stops halfway down the hallway.

“You look like an ice wolf.” His voice retains that same unwavering seriousness as always. “It suits you.”

Without adding anything else, he continues on his way until he disappears from sight.

“If it weren’t for the fact that you’re somewhat fond of him and he’s one of the most capable men when it comes to protecting you, I would have already locked him up with Tanner for speaking to you with so much familiarity.”

“If a butterfly lands on my shoulder, are you going to want to kill it too?” I joke as we continue down the hallway.

“Thomas isn’t a butterfly. He’s an unmated male who looks at you as if you were something precious to him. Aren’t you jealous?”

“So far, you haven’t given me any reason to be.” I answer, this time a little more seriously.

The doors to our bedchamber are open, and a maid is finishing putting away her cleaning supplies in a cart. The fresh scent of soap and newly replaced flowers fills the room.

“Your Highnesses. She bows respectfully with her hands folded in front of her. “I’ve finished. With your permission, I’ll take my leave.”

She’s a very pretty girl. Her copper-colored hair shines beneath the light coming through the windows, and a few freckles decorate her cheeks.

“You may leave, thank you…” I pause for a moment, realizing that I don’t ever know the names of the people who serve in this castle. “What’s your name?”

“Aleli, Luna.”

“Thank you, Aleli.” I smile when she finally lifts her gaze from the floor. She seems somewhat tense. “You may go.”

Bastian walks into the dressing room and acts as if the maid doesn’t even exist.

“Thank you, Luna Celine. I’ll take my leave.”

She exits the room pushing the cart loaded with supplies and dirty laundry, and once the doors close behind her, my attention returns to the sword resting atop the dresser.

I just put it there, and I already want to pick it up again.

I carefully rest it once more on the wooden surface, and the dark steel faintly reflects the light coming through the windows.

The rain has finally stopped.

The ancient engravings running along the blade seem too worn to be understood, yet they still possess a strange and

melancholy beauty.

Well, Erebus, you’re going to have to wait quite a while until I come back to clean you.”

The energy emanating from her makes me smile, and I’m beginning to think I’m truly going crazy, because once again I hear that distant whisper that I can’t quite understand. I run my fingers along the blade and, instantly, some of the images I saw earlier return to my mind. The enormous black wings, the fields covered in blood, and the twin swords gleaming in his hands beneath a crimson sky appear for only a few seconds, along with those golden eyes that observed the world from above with a mixture of sorrow and fury impossible to describe.

Anyone would say it’s a cursed sword, but I feel the exact opposite. It’s as though she needs me, as though my mere presence could ease centuries of loneliness. As though, in some impossible-to-understand way, I myself help her forget how much she misses her sister. The other identical sword that rested in the hands of that king with black wings.

And for the first time since I touched Erebus, the whisper ceases to be an incomprehensible murmur. The voice remains soft, ancient, and strangely feminine, but this time the sadness it contains is so profound that it makes every corner of my soul tremble.

“Sister…”

My fingers stop on the blade, and an inexplicable knot forms in my throat.

Because, for a second, I have the absurd and unsettling sensation that the word is not directed at me.

But at someone Erebus has been searching for, for centuries.

“Your uncle just arrived with Alaric. I thought you’d already taken a shower.”

“I was waiting for you.” I say with a faint smile as I leave the sword in its place. “Shall we?”

Bastian looks at me again the same way he did in the training room and shakes his head, as though he is fighting the urge to pull me back into his arms and not let me leave our bedchamber for the rest of the day.

“You’re going to kill me, Celine. Come on.”

He extends his hand, and I take it so we can walk to the bathroom together.

He turns on the water while undressing, and I become completely motionless when I see the woman staring back at me from the mirror. My hair is no longer blonde. It is almost platinum, so pale that it shines beneath the bathroom light. My skin is much whiter than before, and sapphire-blue eyes, with tiny golden flecks barely visible around the pupils, stare back at me with an intensity that feels strange.

“You look beautiful, Celine.” Astra’s voice sounds strangely similar to Bastian’s and Thomas’s. “You look a lot like me with that almost white hair.

“Do you know if we’re healthy or what race we are?”

“No, and I don’t think we’re different from the rest, either. I don’t feel any different, honestly. Do you?”

The truth is that I do feel a little different.

“No.”

As I remove my clothes, I look at my reflection again, and my eyes widen when the skin of my right arm is revealed.

“Bastian!” I exclaim, and he steps out of the shower covered in soap.

“Goddess…
