He misses his son, but he also is angry at the inability to control Bar the way he controls his crown prince. It is more about appearances than it is love. His brother would be

“The prince remains jealous and he’s going to sow further discord. He’s already plotting ways to make the King angry at Bar. He’s been letting little digs slip out saying things such as,” she shook her head, “he left because he can’t be king someday. Nobody wants to be runner up.”

“So, the king is coming in hot, angry, and wound up that his son isn’t reaching out to him in an obvious time of need and he’s being fed bullshit from a manipulative punk who really wants Bar to stay away. In addition to this, the King has always been a power–hungry man. Knowing Bar’s new mate is the Queen of Kings and Queens, he’s going to be pushing hard for Bar to return home. He will want me close to use me as a showpiece, not that it would work that way. I will make that beast look weaker than he is with ease if he hurts my mate. However, it is junior I am worried about. I am worried my desire to protect my mate is going to make it so I’m hitting first, asking questions later.”

“I want my brother there to use his influence over me to keep me calm. You also have the power to slow time, Jack and I will need you to do this to talk me off a ledge should I decide to simply beat the little cub into the ground.”

“And I you,” she hugged him tight.

They separated and he left her to address the priestesses one last time.

“My sisters. This is the beginning of our future together. You

are forever at my side unless you choose to step away. Know

that the rewards for your service to the Queen Mother are

great. Amazing things are coming your way.”

The high priestess of the Southern Realm smiled warmly, “my Queen, it is not for rewards that we serve you and the Queen Mother. It is for the joy and the feeling of peace which we get

to feel.”

“I need to go now. Thank you again for your services. I may be calling on you sooner rather than later.” She snapped her fingers and heard them all gasp. “We all now share direct

She watched as they all disappeared one–by–one until it was only her and the two high priestesses left.

“Jacinta will be a lot for the priestess to manage on her own. I

need you to check in on her frequently. Make sure she is held

to task, and she is appropriately reprimanded when she fails to do as the Queen Mother demands.”

She looked to the priestess of the Southern Realm, “I have a special project for you. River loves her mate, but her mate is young and he is human. The Queen Mother has let me know she has special blessings for the man; to make him as equal to any fae in terms of strength and power but first River needs to accept him as he is. She needs guidance and love, and Wraith is going to need to learn how to be fae, all about the Queen Mother and what it means to be us. I was given the crash course in the garden of the Queen Mother herself. He doesn’t get that shortcut I’m afraid. It will take time and patience.”

“I will educate him and guide her as you request.”

“Thank you.”

Jacqueline said her goodbyes and made her way to Bar’s

bookstore.

She arrived in the back room and stepped into the space

after ensuring he was alone. He was placing books in a shelf,

and she walked behind him and wrapped her arms around

his middle and rested her cheek on his back.

“You didn’t even flinch.”

“I smelled you when you arrived.” He leaned into her

embrace.

“You are very tense.”

though it could have been from being over coddled.” He turned in her embrace and planted a kiss to her lips.

“No doubt.” She agreed. “He cannot hurt me. You understand

this.”

“He can hurt you though Bar. It might not be physically,”

“You think he will try to get to me through my soft heart?” he

“Yes. You are the kind of person who does not look or even

though Bar and you have your own walls put up but those

closest to you know how to break through that tough exterior.

He will mention your previous mate. He will cry about how he

never meant to hurt her. He is very likely going to insinuate

your failed to protect your first mate so it’s unlikely you

were given a true second mate. He will try to cast doubt on

our relationship, and you will feel compelled to make him believe. Do not fall into his games.”

“He’s going to make it seem like I’m lying.”

“Then he’s going to realize I am who I am, because I will

reveal it when the timing is right. When your father begins to

pressure you, as he will, to bring me home with you, your brother is likely to get quite ugly over the entire thing.”

“Why would he? Even if I did bring you back,” he let his voice trail off, “you are the Queen of Kings and Queens and I am your mate and it puts me ahead of both of them, doesn’t it? The three of us haven’t thought of that.”

“You are the consort of the Queen of Kings and Queens.

You three hold power over your families and all the

kingdoms. You could make your father kneel to you with a

simple command. Your brother is not stupid, and he is very concerned with how he is viewed by your father and your

realm in general. He will try to ruffle your feathers, sow discord so that you break ties with your father because

words will be spoken which will be hurtful and you will ache

from it.”

“This will be emotional warfare is what you’re telling me.”

“And it will not be a short battle. Much of my own path is

hidden from me by the Queen Mother. She wants me to live my life and not plan it around events. In her words love is worthless without pain. to distance herself to excuse her behavior. They were trying

to break Jacinta out of her ice prison.”

He spit a curse word which made her smile.

“They are paying for their folly. There is hope for King Jack and Winika and I will admit King Jack seemed to grasp the severity of his actions, but too much has happened in too short a time frame and I am not as quick to forgive. They need to atone and prove they are worthy of my time and my heart.”
