Entering Rooster’s with three men surrounding her, Jacqueline felt the silence as much as she didn’t hear it. All
eyes were on the quartet as they walked towards a large corner booth and took the spot.
“Hey Tabby,” Bar smiled at the server approaching with four
menus. “Can you bring us the beer menu too?”
Jacqueline felt her temper flaring as the girl boldly adjusted
her breasts and pulled the vee of her t–shirt down further
dipping deep to expose more of her cleavage. Her fingers
clenched around the edge of the table.
“Sure Bar, you’re looking very handsome tonight. A girl would be hard pressed to choose which of the three men at this
table is the hottest though two of you are twins so maybe it’s a tie,” she flipped her hair over her shoulder before her smile dimmed and she looked at Jacqueline. “You dyed your hair
since the last time you were here. Blue is an,” she paused,
“unconventional choice.”
“Tabby,” Bar spoke up before Jacqueline could even
formulate an answer, “this is Jacqueline Frost. She is the love of my life and if you think I’ll let you talk to her the way you .31

talk to female tourists who come here to drink because they can’t ski, you are sadly mistaken.” He leaned sideways and called out to the bartender, “Lex, I know it’s the height of tourist season and you’re busy but if you and Rooster can’t find a server who doesn’t insult the female customers you’re going to be facing a bunch of shitty yelp reviews.”
“Damn it Tabby,” Lex snarled at her as she flushed a bright red from the way Bar called her out and all the patrons were staring at her.
“Oh, come on, Lex, I wasn’t doing anything wrong.”
“You hit on my dates and made fun of my hair,” Jacqueline called her out. “Why do women do that shit?” She asked nobody in particular.
“Oh, come on, you can’t seriously have all three of them to yourself!” Tabby grunted, “She’s been in town days and she’s going to claim the town hunk in addition to the two bloody billionaires she strolled in with. She’s been seen with that other huge guy with the blonde hair and blue eyes and the pro skier.”
“Well,” Jacqueline laughed, “one of them is my brother and the other is my brother–in–law. We’re on a family vacation.” 2/10

“But Bar isn’t your family!”
“I’ve known Bar for longer than you were alive,” Wilder said with a laugh.
Bar smacked his palm on the table and looked at Lex again, “seriously, why does your server have the right to judge
anyone of your customers? Why are we even having a
conversation with a woman none of us,” he waved around the
table, “are even remotely interested in as to whether or not
the woman we’re with deserves one, two or three of us?”
“Tabby, go take over another table.”
“It’s not fair!” she squealed and stomped her foot.
“Oh my god is she throwing another temper tantrum about how the eligible men in this town and frankly any other town. aren’t interested in her? Girl nobody wants someone who throws themselves at her,” the woman Jacqueline had met her first day in the town approached wrapping an apron around her waist. “Hi Jacqueline. I’m Dana. We met before.”
“We did!” Jacqueline accepted her handshake, “good to see
you.”

Dana leaned over the table and smirked, wiggling her eyebrows, “please fulfil every one of my sinful fantasies and tell me this is a date with three men and little old you.”
“I am on a date with all three of them,” she grinned back at
Dana.
“Be still my heart.” Dana squealed. “You and I are going to have a beer later and you’re going to tell me how you got the one guy in town who refused to even acknowledge there were women in his vicinity is up to sharing the three of you. I’ll even bring in some of the fudge I have in my bag out
back.”
“Dana, be nice.” Bar chuckled.
“I am being nice. Jacqueline and I are going to be best
friends someday.” Dana leaned her hip against the table,
“I’m not stupid. If she’s locked you down, she’s staying where
you are.” Dana’s face fell for a moment, “unless you’re
intending to move away, Bar?”
“We’re not moving. We’re staying.”
“See! I called it. Jacqueline is going to need new besties in

town.” She tapped her fingers on the menus, “go through
them and let me know what you want.”
“It’s my table,” Tabby started to protest.
“Not anymore,” Dana looked at Lex who guided her away. She started to walk away, “oh hey Jacqueline before I forget, there’s a Christmas carol karaoke happening in here later tonight. If you’re up to it, you should stick around. It’s hilarious as hell. Watching some of our locals try to remember the lyrics to Oh Tannenbaum or Feliz Navidad while too many beers in is something I look forward to all year long.”
“We’ll be here.” Bar laughed. “Jacqueline needs a good night.”
Rafferty leaned back and whispered at Bar after Dana walked away, “seriously? You want to stay here for karaoke?”
“I want to stay here and watch our girl get settled into the town, relax and have a fun night because lately a lot of our time has been spent being in battles.”
“But karaoke?” Rafferty grunted. “Nothing worse.”
“He can’t sing,” Wilder called him out with a laugh. “Rafferty couldn’t carry a tune in a bag.”

“You can’t sing?”
“I am not musically inclined.” Rafferty shrugged. “So what?”
“Not musically inclined means you can’t sing, or you don’t like music in general.”
“It means I like music just fine, but I can’t play an instrument or sing a song and be in tune.”
“It’s very embarrassing for a fae,” Wilder was enjoying teasing his brother. “When you think of fae, you think of musical, light creatures who flit from flowers and sing and dance. Not this guy.”
“Shut up Wilder.” Rafferty grinned clearly, not really upset with his brother’s mockery. “Wilder can’t cook. He has a private chef back in New York who prepares all his meals because he burns pans boiling water. At least singing isn’t a
basic life skill.”
“You can’t cook?” Bar asked Wilder laughing.
“Nope. Good thing my new mate not only can hunt and fish like a wild man, but he can cook. Also, I pay my chef a lot of

money. She would be fine moving to our new home to cook
for all of us.”
Jacqueline’s eyes narrowed, “she?”
“Yes my jealous mate, my chef is a female.”
“Have you slept with her?”
“No. I have not slept with her.”
“How old is she?”
“Jacqueline,” Wilder laughed at, “she is in her thirties, very pretty and single. Yet I never once contemplated going
there.”
“She can stay in New York.”
“You are very jealous.” Bar tilted his head to one side and regarded Jacqueline seriously. “You will need to learn to trust your mates. We will make sure you are well taken care of, sweetheart.”
“I do trust you but let’s be real, women like Tabby are going to be everywhere. Look at the three of you. You’re gorgeous 7/10

wealthy men in prime physical condition.”
“And you are a beautifully stunning woman who is more than enough for us.” Rafferty reminded her.
She nodded and bit the inside of her cheeks, “it’s crazy. I am aware of who I am and what I am but I’m still feeling a bit
like I’m,” she let her voice trail off.
“You are made for us and we for you, mate,” Wilder squeezed
her hand on the table. “Forever you will have our loyalty and
devotion. You are all we could ever want or need.”
Jacqueline frowned and nodded. “I know this but sometimes it makes me crazy.”
“You’re not crazy. We’re jealous of each other,” Bar laughed as he waved at the other two men at the table. “We don’t like one of us getting a minute of more time than the other where you are concerned. Can you imagine how we’re going to be when you need to be meeting with dignitaries of other
realms?”
“What do you mean?”
“Wait until you need to meet with the Lycan king,” Bar 8/10

snorted, “be grateful boys that I’m your mate and not him.
He’s bigger than me everywhere.”
“Oh, right I forgot about other species. The Lycan King is attractive?” she asked wide–eyed.
“Gorgeous,” Wilder nodded. “Bar is right. I’m glad we have Bar as a mate. Bar at least is a cool guy. That other guy is a cocky son of a bitch who knows how hot he is.
He’d be primping and preening and probably would have Jacqueline’s knees spread all the time without us present. At least Bar knows how to share.”
She laughed at their words, “you’re all too funny. I’m happy with my lot. We need to look at the menu and then get our orders in.” She looked to the door and then grinned, “look! River and Wraith are here. This is going to be a great night of
karaoke now.”
She waved excitedly at the couple who seemed thrilled to see them. This was exactly what she needed. Good family around them to have fun again to remind her that the war that was coming was worth fighting for this.
