“Magnificent,” the words fell from Rafferty’s lips and Jacqueline turned her head to look at him incredulously.
“What?”
“You are magnificent.”
“No. I’m high. Seriously I think I need medical attention because the barista clearly laced my shit and I’m having some kind of hallucination involving magical fictional characters.” She paused and frowned, “I wonder if I’m really passed out at my desk and all of this is just a dream? The last time anything felt normal was when I took a long sip of my drink before coming into the building.” She tapped her chin with her finger, “or, maybe I’m still home in bed and this is all a dream. I’m having a horrible nightmare because I ate that entire jar of queso dip and crackers while watching that damn holiday movie Shelly recommended. I was so worked up over the presentation and the processed cheese product that now I’m having weird dreams.” She looked at Wilder, “pinch me.”
“Yeah, honey, that’s not going to work,” he gave her a gentle smile and then gave a wide–eyed look at his brother to convey he thought perhaps she was off her rocker. “Don’t you remember teleporting? We taught you. It’s not a dream or a hallucination. You’re a fairy, one of the strongest of our kinds because you are the daughter of Jack Frost.”

commenting how excited he was to have a little sister to spoil. Your sister as well. She even spent time with the royal seamstress making all the cutest little outfits for her dolly as she referred to you. She couldn’t wait for you to come and spoil you. You were wanted and loved. It makes no sense.” Jack spoke angrily as he looked around the room, “unless the enchantment was faked and one of them stole you.”
“To what end?” Fawn threw her hands up in the air. “What did we have to gain? I am powerful enough on my own. My daughter is already the rightful heir. My sons are far too selfish of individuals to want to rule on a throne of their own so they sure as shit aren’t gunning for yours. I can’t get them to come to a state dinner let alone put a blasted crown on their head.”
The words of Fawn made Jacqueline look at the brothers curiously, “no ambition at all for the crown?”
“Fuck no.” Wilder was blunt. “Do you know how dry and boring it all is? Why would I want to sit in meetings all day listening to people squawk and complain about shit I don’t care about for nothing. Life is too much fun to be stuck sitting inside meetings.”
“It’s exactly what you do here,” Rafferty snorted at him. “People come to you with their problems and you fix them.”
“For money,” he rubbed his thumb and finger together in the air5“I do it for money. Mom has to do it because she’s

and it’s her destiny. I want the cash.”
Jacqueline looked at Rafferty, “I know what he does for a living, but what do you do?”
“Me?” Rafferty smiled broadly, “I run a small group of hotel chains and restaurants. Perhaps you’ve heard of them? Royal R Consortium?”
She shook her head, “is it famous?”
Wilder snickered at the question as Rafferty puffed his chest up with irritation.
“They are five–star hotels all over the world designed for the rich and famous to relax and indulge all which life has to offer. One of my hotels just this year was named the best in the world, and you’ve not heard of Royal R?”
“No. Though, in my defense, I don’t usually hobnob with the rich and famous. I don’t travel and I don’t think I’ve ever stayed in a hotel in my life. I did go to a hostel once when I was moving from one apartment to another and my new one, the landlord gave the tenant until midnight to get their stuff out and they waited until eleven–fifty–nine to hand over the keys, and he needed to deep clean it. I needed to leave my stuff in the moving truck, and I slept at the hostel until the place was ready. Other than that, I’ve always slept at home.”

“You will do no such thing. She is my daughter and she will come home to spend time with her family.”
“No, I won’t.” Jacqueline cut Jack down fast. “I am not going with you to be surrounded by people I don’t know or trust. I’m happy to stay in New York. Hell even a hostel sounds better than that plan.”
