Jacqueline felt a wave of encouragement come over her at his words but more than that, she could almost feel him in her chest and her brain. The warmth of his belief in her and the support he held for her was filling her like a blast of warmth.

She gave him a nod and he winked back.

“The thing is, you’re a great athlete Wraith. I watched some of your competitions and I know you’re going to hit the podium but not like this. This,” she waved at him, “you’re a wreck and your country is not going to let a wreck represent them on the world stage. Your coach and manager and parents pandering to your every whim is what got us here. It’s time for you to make a very tough decision.”

“What decision is that?” he asked with a frown and folded his

arms over his chest.

“Grow up and stop with the sex, drinks and rock and roll or change your career path.”

“You want me to stop having sex?”

“I want you to recognize you’re not having sex for any other reason than instant gratification. You’re using women, some of them too young to be used,” she said pointedly, “for the fuck of il! Pcould line up ten women in this room right now anu I

They all go in with stars in their eyes and leave embarrassed and I know this because women who weren’t hurt, aren’t going to start posting shit on the internet and they’re coming out of the woodwork.”

“It’s a pattern of behavior but we can spin it.” Wilder added seriously.

“Spin it?” the coach spoke softly.

“There is a program in Colorado for addicts. It’s located in a picturesque town. It offers a holistic approach to recovery. School gets out. You go to the program as a sex addict.”

“I’m not a fucking sex addict!” he slapped the table furiously. “I am not going to be pegged all over the internet as a sex addict.”

“You already are.” Jacqueline pulled her phone out and slid it down the table. “There are so many girls coming out of the woodwork TMZ is calling you more than a sex addict. They are wondering how much your team,” she waved to the people around the room, “are covering up for you. Drugs? Alcohol? They’re alleging orgies and they’re not wrong. You had three women in a hot tub, Wraith. There’s partying like a college kid and then there is behaving like an out–of–control kid with no accountability. How many sponsors have pulled already since this broke yesterday?”

“No. I’m going to do what you haven’t done. I’m going to sacrifice the lot of you for your son’s career. You’re going to help. We are going to paint this as a young man who has never been made to understand the word no. It’s led to a lifetime of excess. You’re going to attend the program and you’re going to complete it. You’ll participate. You’ll be permitted to ski at the local hill. You’ll be required to attend the program’s fitness program as well. They will work around your specific needs for your Olympic trials. You will attend the mandatory counselling, group therapy and you will play the part. It’s four weeks. You will make this work. You’ll come out of the program, healthier, mentally balanced, and ready for trials. That’s how we’re going to promote it. We’ll get photo ops in the quiet town, on the ski hill. No women. No partying. Settling down into rehab and recovery. You need to be there,” she turned her attention to his parents, “and provide a united front.”

“Fuck that. If you think I’m spending my Christmas holidays with her, you’re out of your mind. If I wanted to be nagged constantly, I’d have stayed married to her.”

“We need a united front, and he needs someone to keep him accountable. Someone who gives a shit about his future needs to be there to make sure he doesn’t slip up and get caught screwing around with a local townie.” Wilder backed Jacqueline’s

demands up.

“Yes. Don’t parents want what is best for their child? You’ve given him everything in life, spoiled him rotten, what is one more thing for you to sacrifice for your child?”

“No bloody way.” Nancy hissed. “Clyde, tell them we are not agreeing to this shit.”

“I’ll do it.” Wraith suddenly spoke up. “I’ll go to the program. Do you make it, so my image is squeaky clean after I do this though? Four weeks near a ski hill instead of whatever shit hole resort they’ll send me to for me to spend Christmas alone on the slopes.”

“I am not doing this,” Clyde spoke again.

“We will.” Wilder said suddenly making Jacqueline turn to him in horror. “If we can fix this, keep you on track and get you to trials with a clean image, then you sign with us for the duration of your skiing career.”

“Done.”

As Wraith Fairchild agreed to the plan, Jacqueline shot Wilder a look of incredulity. What the hell had he just signed them up for?
