Stormy Behavior Part II
“Jacqueline,” Rafferty whispered softly, “no. Sweetheart, you can’t believe that.”
“What have you done to make me feel like any of what you are doing is for my benefit. All I hear is about how this bond
is important, but who is it important to because it’s not my
opinions and thoughts which are being catered to.” She huffed furiously. “All this jealous behavior is not endearing you to me. It’s making me feel constricted and confined. It
makes me want to run back to my room, close the door, lock
it, and stay there for the entire duration of this trip. Telling me what I can read, or who I can talk to or telling others they need to keep their distance from me, is a violation of my rights as a person.” She blinked back angry tears as she
shoved between the two men and caught sight of the pub at
the end of the street with the big rooster hanging on the sign.
She made her way towards the pub and was almost there when Wilder and Rafferty grabbed her and yanked her into the alley between the pub and a store next to it.
“What are you doing?”
“You need to calm down,” Wilder said as he pointed to the ai

She noted for the first time they were nearly encapsulated in
a blizzard of wind and snow swirling around them.
“You’re creating a squall with your anger.” Rafferty took her fingers in his and lifted them up to her face, “breathe, Jacqueline. Take deep breaths and focus on the sound of my voice. You are safe. You are strong. You are the one in control of your powers and you need to bring it back under your own strength. Come on,” Rafferty blew warm breaths on her freezing cold fingers.
“What is happening?” she was stunned by the way the snow was swirling around them and how it became more frantic as the fear rose in her.
“You’re in a climate far colder than what you were in. You’re amongst other fae. Your family and ours are here. My sister and parents are at the lodge as well. Your powers are burgeoning, manifesting because you’re embracing the fact you are fae but also because you’re surrounded by the things which give you power. Like any fae of the Frost line, your powers are greatly affected by your moods, and you conjure up storms with the anger you’re feeling. In the past it stayed in your body, tight and locked in but it’s all coming out now 2/6

that you’re aware and accepting.” Wilder wiped an angry
tear off her cheek and held up the frozen crystal for her examination. “You’re coming into your Frost powers, and you need to get them in check before you expose an entire town
to the presence of a fae princess.”
“I hate this,” she whispered. “I only want to be normal. All my
life, I only wanted to be normal.”
“You are normal. You are a perfectly normal fae.” Rafferty reassured her as he tried to warm her hands up with the heat
of his breath.
“I’m so angry.”
“That’s the Frost bloodline,” Rafferty chuckled. “For a bunch of icy people, you’re all hot heads.”
Wilder reached out and pulled her into his arms and hugged her tight, “it’s going to be okay. We promise. You are correct that we’re fighting to save the bond for ourselves but it’s also for you. It’s a benefit to you as well to have mates, Jacqueline.”
“I’m not seeing the benefit.”

“Because we’ve been trying to do damage control and preservation and trying to be sneaky in getting to the bottom. of the safety issues which in my opinion still exist. We’ll do better.” He kissed the top of her head as the flurries slowly settled to the ground. His hand created small circles on her back and Rafferty brushed her hair off her cheek to stare down at her curled in Wilder’s arms.
“Your hair has another blue streak,” Rafferty said quietly. “We pissed you off so much it literally turned your hair blue.”
A muffled sob bubbled up, and he leaned over and kissed
her cheek reassuringly.
Wilder spoke soothingly, “it’s going to be all right.”
“At the rate you all keep pissing me off, my entire head will
be blue before this month is up.”
He chuckled, “we’ll do better. I apologize for acting like a
jealous asshole with Bar. He was winding us up and we played right into it.”
“I’m sorry too. It’s hard to see you so comfortable with
someone who isn’t us.”

“I’m not comfortable with you because you want something
from me. He doesn’t.”
“He wants to screw you.”
“He does not.” She laughed. “All of that was for your purposes not mine. Did you see him? He’s drop dead gorgeous. He wouldn’t be really interested in someone like me.”
Both men stepped back from her incredulously, “are you kidding right now? What does that make us?”
“Gold bonds are tainting your view of me. If it weren’t for the bond you’d not give me a second look.”
They both stood staring at her with their mouths wide open in disbelief.
“Are you serious right now?” Rafferty asked incredulously.
“Yeah.”
“Wow. We have our work cut out for us, but you need to know, Bar the Bear was not doing any of that for our benefit. He was making it very clear that he wants you in his bed. Wraith told us point blank that he thinks you are hot and he wouldn’t 5/6

mind you being his girlfriend and said he didn’t even care of the age difference. You’re gorgeous, my love.” Wilder took her hand and put it in the crook of his elbow. “Come. Let’s go do an experiment.”
“What kind of experiment?” Rafferty asked.
“Let’s go bolster our woman’s ego. We’re taking her to the
pub. We will keep a running tab of how many men hit on her
even with us sitting there.”
“I don’t like this experiment,” Rafferty snarled.
“I do!” Jacqueline nodded excitedly. “Perhaps once you both see that nobody is even looking in my direction, you’ll back the fuck off. You might even decide I’m not worth this gold bond and go to your own priestess and queen for approval.”
“Never going to happen,” Wilder said as he led her out of the alley and towards the pub entrance.
“This is a dumb idea.” Rafferty mumbled. “We’re going to end up destroying an entire town.”
