Slippery Part I
Jacqueline entered the pub and felt all eyes on her and then
realized it wasn’t her but them.
Twin moguls dressed like they’d just stepped off the cover of GQ’s winter edition with their dark hair, stormy eyes, and fit builds. They had the eyes of women and men alike on them. She rolled her eyes at the obvious way they were being
ogled.
“Yeah, it’s me this experiment is going to help with their self–confidence,” she muttered under her breath.
“Take a seat anywhere,” the guy behind the bar called out.
“Thanks,” she waved to him and made her way to a high–top
table near the edge of the room.
“Why are you heading for the corner?” Wilder asked.
“Because it’s where I’m comfortable,” she grunted as she hoisted her butt up onto the stool and tucked her legs around the metal legs. She yelped when Rafferty lifted the entire stool and put it closer to the table. “Don’t lift me like I’m a qhild.”

“But you’re so petite. It brings out the caveman in me. I would literally carry you around in my pocket if I could.”
“You’re an idiot.”
The insult fell from her lips before she could stop it and he
frowned at her as he took his own seat.
“You need to stop being so antagonistic. We were making headway this week with our dinner and breakfast dates and spending time together. We got onto the plane, and you reverted back to the prickly pear you were the day we met. Come on. We’re going to put in effort.”
“I’m prickly because you allowed people who I don’t feel safe around to intrude on the flight. You then let her flirt with you. without shutting it down. Then you weren’t around to keep them from chasing me down the street and intruding on my personal time. Then you got all jealous and belligerent and even more intrusive. I’m struggling because nobody is respecting my boundaries and that includes you.”
“You’re right. We’re sorry.” Wilder shot Rafferty a look. “We
will be more mindful.”

She looked up when a pretty server approached the table
with a set of food and drink menus.
“Hi. My name is Tabby. I’ll be your server this evening,” she was staring at the twins not even looking at Jacqueline. “There is a great selection of craft beer, and the special today is buttermilk fried chicken and waffles.”
“Thank you Tabby. I’ll take the darkest beer you have on tap,” Wilder gave her a smile. “I do want to look through the menu though.”
“Sounds good. What would you like to drink?” she looked at Rafferty.
“I’ll have the same for beer.”
Tabby looked at Jacqueline, “and for you?”
The way her voice dipped a hair lower made Jacqueline bristle, but she bit her bottom lip to keep from lashing out. She flipped through the drink menu and then pointed to one on the list, “I’ll have the orange IPA.”
“Great!” the woman turned on her heel and started to walk away before turning back and smiling at the twins, “call me if 3/6

you need anything.”
“Twins one. Jacqueline zero.”
They both looked at her curiously and then Wilder grinned.
“Doesn’t feel so good to have your mates flirted with in front of you.”
“Oh. I couldn’t give less of a fuck if I tried. I’m more
concerned about how you both said I’d come in here and get
hit on and it’s certainly not the case.”
“We only sat down.” Rafferty chuckled as he reached across
the table and lifted her hand to hold it on the tabletop.
“You’re beautiful when you’re hangry.”
She pushed her middle finger into his palm and huffed with annoyance while he snickered.
“Well, since we’re here, let’s talk about what ideas you might
have about exposing Jacinta.” Wilder leaned in his chair and
stretched his legs out under the table until they caught her
feet in his.
He was playing footsies with her. She wanted to pull away because she was still annoyed with him, but she didn’t want 4/6

“Personally, I’d like to simply tie her to a chair, interrogate. her with torture devices until she confesses and then be done
with it.”
Rafferty and Wilder both looked at her with incredulous
expressions.
“You would want to torture her?”
“Why not? It’s the most efficient way to get information out of someone as sneaky and conniving as she is.” Her eyes drifted
to where the server was waiting for the bartender to finish
pouring the beer and Jacqueline sneered when she watched
the woman unbutton her top two more buttons and then
adjusted her breasts. “Good grief.”
“What?”
She looked at the men at the table and realized neither of
them were looking anywhere but at her and didn’t see the bold movements of the server.
“Incoming boobs.”

At her dry comment, the two men frowned and looked at each other before looking around the room and then noticing the girl who’d pushed her bosom up so high it was nearly spilling from her top. She carried the tray with the three beers in a way which emphasized her chest and she was swinging her hips so hard her entire torso was twisting with
An imp inside her was the only thing Jacqueline could blame for the sudden feeling and the outcome of the feeling, but she flicked her fingers in the direction of the floor where the woman was walking, and the tiniest patch of ice formed right in front of the woman. She slipped on it, her feet splaying like a baby deer and Jacqueline relished how in slow motion the woman landed hard on her ample bottom and the tray of drinks dumped all over her chest and face.
“Oh, what a shame.” She muttered as people ran scurrying to help Tabby off the floor.
Rafferty pinched her finger in his hand, “you are looking fairly smug for a fairy princess who wasn’t jealous.”
