Power Part II
“We don’t pray lightly to our goddess. When we go to the goddess it is for real purpose and not something we do without pure intent.”
“What have you prayed for?”
“You.” Wilder held her gaze. “We prayed for you, so many times. We knew you would come to us.”

“Aside from me?”
“My mother’s health,” Rafferty commented. “She was ill for a short time, and we were terrified of possibly losing her.
Wilder and I prayed desperately for a full moon cycle. My mother swears to this day the goddess visited her in her
dreams and was told it was her sons‘ love which saved her.”
“You can get sick then?”
“198 yes,” Wilder nodded. “Our longevity doesn’t mean it’s 1:00

without illness or strife.”

“What happened to her?” Jacqueline felt a worry for the older
woman.
“There were a bunch of fae who all sick with a virus were. My mother spent her time working with the sick, tending to them, working with them and sure enough she contracted the illness. The problem was she’d worn herself to the point of exhaustion that when it hit her, it nearly took her life. We were all working but she did far more than anyone else. Crazy lady.” Rafferty grumbled.
“She has a good heart,” Jacqueline said seriously.
“The only person who worked nearly as hard as her was your mother, Winika. Winika was the one who helped tend to our mother when she got sick.”
“It’s why you’re protective of Winika. She helped your mother.”
“Yes. Where our grandparents essentially loathed one another, our parents were friends, close and worked hard to get rid of the barriers between our realms. They fostered a wonderful friendship which failed when you were stolen.” 2/8

“Except she took me,” Jacqueline’s eyes flitted to the entrance
of the lounge where they were seated.
Both men followed her gaze and grunted, “yes.” Wilder moved his hand and Jacqueline watched as Jacinta looked right past them.
“What did you do?” she asked Wilder.
“A defensive gift I possess. Right now, as she looks at this table, she doesn’t recognize any of us. We are here. She can see that there are three people seated her, but she could sit right on our laps and not recognize us because I have us hidden from her gaze.”
“That is a cool gift!” Jacqueline grinned at him. “How do you find out what gifts you have?”
“Usually, the priestesses work with you. Some will manifest naturally, like your ability to draw snow and create storms around you. All of us have the ability to teleport in one way or another and we need to learn to hone some skills. Then there are special gifts, like the gift of sight or the gift of camouflage. River can move things with her mind, telekinesis. She can also create force fields which protect the

people behind them. Your brother Jack has the ability to slow time and to create vortexes with wind, like a polar vortex. I am sure you have this as well after our walk today.”
“I don’t think I have any special abilities outside of the ones which are related to the snow and icy things we’ve seen with other Frost family members.”
“I bet you do,” Rafferty argued. “Let’s work on it, right now.”
“How?”
“Close your eyes,” Rafferty instructed her.
“Is this going to turn into one of those pheromone things?”
“Not unless you’re going to allow one of us to get under the table and pleasure you, no.” Rafferty snickered.
“As fun as that would be, she grinned at him as he squeezed
her hand.
She closed her eyes and Rafferty began to speak lowly, his
tone hypnotic and encouraging.
“Listen to the sound of my voice. I want you to think of the

bond you saw when we first joined. You saw the golden thread which ties us, the rope which binds our souls. Now, follow that golden rope all the way to your heart and then to your mind. Do not let it go. Trace it until it intertwines with the essence of who you are. Follow it deep, Jacqueline. Follow the golden thread as it wraps around who you are in the deepest part of your psyche. Find the tether of your soul and in it find the part of you which is bestowed by the goddess herself.”
She felt light, almost as if she were floating as she listened while Rafferty continued speaking lowly, encouraging her to follow the golden thread all the way to what she could only call the deepest part of her brain. She felt like she was floating, levitating and at first she wondered if this was the power she was searching for. Could she fly or float as it were? As she looked around in whatever dark space she was in, she realized it wasn’t flying or floating but rather she was able to manipulate gravity not only for herself but for things around her. She could move things, including herself. Then her mind switched to hear the faintest of sounds. She homed in as close as she could and she searched for where the tones were coming from. As if she were searching the entire room while still sitting between the twins, she managed to find the source. A cat curled up by the fire. It opened it’s eyes as she stroked it in her mind and then she gasped when she very clearly heard it purr and whisper.

Her eyes flicked open and she stared at the twins in disbelief.
“What did you see?”
“I think I can talk to animals.”
Rafferty and Wilder exchanged glances and then Wilder
cleared his throat.
“You think you can talk to animals?”
“There is a cat by the fireplace,” she looked around and realized there wasn’t a fireplace in this area. “Did I dream
it?”
“No. There is a fireplace in the reception area lounge and
there is a cat.”
“Black and white, like a tuxedo?”
“Yes.” Rafferty’s smile was wide. “You not only found him in
your mind but communicated with him?”

“I stroked him and he said it was nice.”
“Explains why you clicked with Bar.” Wilder said. “You have an affinity for creatures. It’s a special gift usually reserved for priestesses. The ability to communicate with other creatures is important, Jacqueline.”
“I kind of want to go looking for animals to talk to and test it.”
“Now that you’ve tapped into it, it shouldn’t be hard. Maybe after your breakfast in the morning, if you don’t go skiing with River, we can go for a walk in the woods, and you can find some animals to commune with.” Rafferty encouraged
her.
“In the meantime,” Wilder grinned wickedly, “you have two beasts right here you can talk to. Let’s keep our party going.”
“Will you both help me, teach me?”
“We can do better than that,” Wilder promised. “We can take you right to a priestess when you’re ready to go over anything and everything you want to know. We’ve been hesitating to offer because I am sure the Frost priestess might know more of your family but since you’re going to be
part of our family, I’m certain our priestess will be more than 7/8

happy to help.”
She leaned sideways and pressed a kiss to his cheek and then pressed one to Rafferty’s cheek.
“Thank you. I’m feeling very lucky to have you both on my
side.”
As the two men gripped her hands on the table she felt a rush of a zing of power slam through her body and she gasped. “What was that?”
