Jack Part I
Rafferty moved in tandem with his brother to push Jacqueline behind them and formed a barrier to protect her.
“Calm yourself, Jack.”
Rafferty watched his mother rise from her position on the sofa
to redirect his attention.
“Calm myself? You sent your daughter to my palace to tell me your son found my daughter instead of coming to me directly and you tell me to calm myself? Move your sons so I can see her!”
“I sent my daughter, the heiress to my throne, in my stead, because my son needed my help with Jacqueline. Your daughter
thinks she’s human.”
The words from Fawn’s mouth made the blustering king pause in his footsteps and Rafferty could see the confusion etched on the beast’s face.
“She thinks what?”
“She was dropped at a human hospital, Jack. Someone dropped her there and she grew up in the state system believing she was a human child with an illness which makes her turn blue due to

“Step away from those boys, Jacqueline. I want to see your
face.
“I don’t know if I want to see yours,” she muttered surprising Rafferty with her words.
He chuckled and looked over his shoulder, winking at her, “he’s pretty scary but we’ll keep you safe.”
“Do not tell my child I am scary!”
“Stop bellowing like a damn ogre and maybe she might be more inclined to step from behind the boys,” Hugh shot back. “You came in here screaming like a possessed fool.”
Rafferty glared back at the man who was glaring at him, “I will not let my mate be intimidated by a creature unable to control his emotions.”
“Mate? Oh hell no!” Jack bellowed. “She will not be mated to the people who lost her!”
Wilder snickered, “she’s mated to both of us, gold bonds. Suck it Ice King.”
Rafferty looked at his brother incredulously, once again remembering why he was named as he was named. He heard the faintest hint of a snicker from behind him and looked at
Jacqueline, “do not encourage him or he’ll incite a war.”

“Let me see my child.”
“Where is Winika?” Fawn asked quietly. “Perhaps if you were soothed by her presence.”
“My queen has not been herself and you know it Fawn. She has carried around a god damned bouquet of frozen snowbells since this all happened and talks and tends to it like it’s her daughter and the flowers can hear her. I did not have the heart to bring her here in case it was disappointment we were facing. Now, I can smell my child feet away from me. I am warning, before I turn this entire building into a frozen wasteland, show me my
child.”
Rafferty tried valiantly not to make a face at the words.
“Go ahead,” Wilder said with a shrug. “You can do that, but we’ll
be
gone with her before you drop a single ice crystal. She is our mate. Her safety comes first.”
“You have been hiding her here all along, haven’t you? Is this a sick game?”
she
“I was not. She has been working in my company for years and I never noticed her until today. The moment I realized who
was, I called my parents to me, and they sent River to you. You knew almost as quickly as we knew.” Wilder argued as if completely unafraid of the giant–sized man in front of him and 3/6

Rafferty wondered why it was his brother received balls made of pure brass because he himself was admittedly quite worried about the fact Jack could wipe out the entire state without blinking. “Now rein all that blue shit in so your daughter isn’t terrified of you.”
“Wait, he’s blue?” Jacqueline pushed her head through the two biceps and peeked out at the man who would be her father.
Rafferty turned his head to catch a glimpse of his mate as her curiosity got the better of her. Her eyes widened incredibly at the sight of the man, and he immediately contemplated how beautiful they were. With every glimpse of her, she was stealing his breath.
“That’s Jack Frost?” she whispered to the two men on either side of her.
Rafferty nodded, “yup.”
“Hollywood has it so wrong. I mean, every movie I have ever seen depicting Jack Frost in it, and I’ve seen a lot because one of my foster families thought it would be fun to do a full day during the holidays of watching movies with my namesake in it,” she made a face of irritation, “and all those movies depict skinny dudes with pointy noses and frosted tips. This guy looks like a cross between Santa Claus and an orc.”

was unable to define. She was amazing, his mate. With her blue eyes, sharp tongue, and razor–like wit, he would need to be on his toes for all the rest of his life. He contemplated momentarily all the ways he could try to convince her to reject her bond with Wilder to be with him only. The problem was, in her current mindset, if he told her she could reject a bond, she was going to reject them both.
Historically, only a handful of fae have ever rejected their bonds and every single one of them were due to extenuating circumstances. In his lifetime he’d only ever witnessed one rejection, and it was between a fae couple where the male had accidentally killed the father of the female fae only weeks before the bond revealed itself. She’d gone to confront the man who’d caused the accident and the bond was revealed. She’d rejected him instantly. Since no fae was ever given a second chance mate the pair lived very lonely lives.
As he stared at his mate, who was staring in awe at her father, he couldn’t help but feel a moment of panic at the notion she could ever leave him. He looked at Wilder who was staring at her the same way. That same old feeling of resentment surged up in Rafferty’s chest despite the time.
Rafferty lived up to his reputation as the naughty prince and he knew it. He wasn’t some sweet angelic boy who was sunshine and rainbows, collecting bunnies and kittens and made love instead of fuck. No, he was who he was, the prince who got into gouble, did crazy things with crazier women and ever on p1:48
