Orson
Chapter 57
She popped up beside Bar’s cabin with Jacinta the statue in her hands and couldn’t stop grinning.
“What the hell is that?” Bar’s growled voice called the side of
the cabin.
“She tried to stab me.” Jacqueline gave a blink of innocence in his direction. “I froze her hand and then the idea hit me. I
mean I was already thinking snow sculptures and creatures, so I mean, natural progression of thought and all.”
“You froze your sister?” Bar asked in awe.
“She ran at me from behind with a knife. It was like she forgot
two of my three mates are healers.” She tapped her knuckles against the forehead of the icy woman. “Did you hear that? Two of my three mates are healers!” she called out loudly
before turning back to Bar. “She can hear me, but we can’t hear her. It’s something Daddy Jack taught me in Wilder’s office actually. He built this little structure of ice around us,
and it blocked out sound, I simply made the housing fit a bit snugger.”

“I don’t know if this is appropriate.”
“It would only be inappropriate if we did something to her in this state, like let wild animals piss on her or set her on fire to see how long it would take for the ice to melt. I simply want her to watch quietly and without forcing everyone to make her the center of attention.”
“Won’t she get cold?”
“She’s a Frost. We don’t really get cold. I mean we feel cold for sure but frostbite or being harmed by the cold is nearly impossible.” She gave a shrug and then turned back to the ice princess, “you comfy in there my sister, not cold, right?” She looked back to Bar grinning, “she’s fine!” she waved it off with nonchalance.
Bar was still looking at Jacinta with concern as he followed Jacqueline towards the clearing behind his home.
“Did you make it so that your driveway is inaccessible to the town?”
“Yes. I have a gate at the end of the driveway. I closed it up.”

“Well, that’s easy. Somehow in my head I was thinking you’d use your bearish brute strength to put a tree down or something.”
“A downed tree would make people come to check to make sure I’m okay.” He looked at her with a frown. “You are not familiar with living in a small town, are you?”
“Not even a little bit. I live in tiny apartment that would fit in my brother’s shoe closet.” She looked at Bar while doing a slow turn in his yard, “did you know Jack has more shoes in
his closet than an entire shoe store?”
“Seems right for him.”
“I like it here,” she said suddenly as she looked up to the sky. “It’s peaceful.”
“Yes it is.”
“You would hate living in the city,” she said quietly as she studied the darkening sky.
“There would be no place for me to shift. My bear needs to
stretch.”

His words reminded her of his beast, “that’s true. He’s big.”
“All bear shifters are grizzlies.”
“He wants to meet me, doesn’t he? I mean I met him already, but we didn’t really connect because I didn’t know he was my
mate. Can I meet him now?”
“You want to meet him now?”
“Yes.”
“Okay.”
“Does he have a name?”
“Orson.”
“Cool.”
“Cool?”
“I don’t know what else to say. I’m feeling nervous.”
“Why?”

“He’s my mate and I want him to like me.”
“He already loves you.”
Her eyes flicked to his in surprise, “really?”
“Yes. He’s a much more primitive creature than his
counterpart, although,” Bar gave her a shy smile, “perhaps it is not such a surprise.”
“Why?”
“Like beast like man?”
“Are you telling me you love me after a mere afternoon with
me?”
“A couple of afternoons but yes. I am a simple man; Jacqueline and I trust my bond. It’s very strong and I know without a shadow of a doubt your soul is utter perfection for
me.”
“But love?”
“Is it so hard to believe?”

“Yes. I know I’m not loveable. I had one foster mother who
told me I was difficult to bond with because I’m too closed
off.”
“It speaks to her inability to see the beautiful soul buried in
the hurt caused by others.”
She pursed her lips and then she smiled at him, “you make
me want to believe I’m loveable.”
“Oh, my sweet mate, you are very loveable.” He removed his
vest and then unbuttoned his shirt. “I need to be naked for
this.”
“Okay.” She nodded without any hesitation.
“Your sister is right there. I have no qualms getting naked in front of anyone. In fact, nudity is nothing to be ashamed of and I’ve seen more than my fair share, and I’ve been naked
around many people but given how much you hate her,” he let his voice fall away.
“Let her eat her heart out,” she shrugged but then corrected herself, “but keep your back to her. I don’t want her seeing frontal stuff.”

He chuckled as he began unzipping his pants, “yes mate.” His pants fell down around his ankles after he kicked off his boots.
She knew she was staring and she also knew Wilder was not wrong in his earlier comment. There was a reason Bar walked around with big dick energy.
“I’m feeling objectified.”
“You are definitely being objectified,” she grinned unrepentant at her admission.
He leaned down and grabbed a handful of snow and threw it at her, “get it together. We have a bunch of people going to show up here any minute for a snow sculpture competition.”
“It’s going to be fun!” she protested. “I’ve never played in the snow. I want to play and be with my family and my mates and bond. I want to bond with everyone.”
“How have you never played in the snow?”
“I’ve never lived anywhere with a yard. I also was raised to believe I had a circulatory problem. Nobody was letting me out to play and risk the medical bills if I caught cold.”

Bar shot an angry glance over his shoulder at Jacinta, “I kind of want to cover her in bait for wolves to gnaw through.”
“I think my parents would not be happy with that. I’m probably going to end up throwing her in a cell where nobody can get her out but me but only time will tell. She may have an epiphany and turn over a new leaf.”
She watched with interest as Bar stretched his arms up, his torso taut and then he closed his eyes, let his head fall forward and he began to sprout fur all over his body. His face elongated, his nose shaping into a snout and his teeth
growing pointy and jagged as he fell onto all fours. His size seemed to grow exponentially, and he was stalking towards her with his dark brown eyes fixed on her like she was prey. Yet she felt no fear as she stared back at him. Dropping
to her knees in front of him she reached her hand out and
stroked along his snout.
“Oh, Orson, you are magnificent.”
“Mate,” he growled. “Mine!”
Never was she so grateful to know she had a magical power as special as being able to communicate as she couldn’t stop

smiling at the gruffness in his voice.
“I am yours, Orson. You are mine. We are going to be together a long time.” She rubbed her cheek against his and then giggled when he knocked her backwards onto her back and straddled over her, paws as big as her head, flattening
the snow on either side of her head. She stared up into his
eyes.
“My mate. Bar better be good to you or I will make him
miserable.”
“I am sure he will be good to me, Orson.” She rubbed the space between his chest and neck with her fingernails and
he groaned loudly.
“Mate feels good.”
“When we know each other better, Orson, I will find a way
to make sure you feel good too. I promise to never have you feeling left out.” She closed her eyes as he nuzzled her neck before licking her. “You will be so loved when I figure out my
foolish heart.”
“Not foolish. Scared.” Orson grumbled as he began sniffing her all over as if trying to memorize her scent. “Scared Jac. 9/13

Jac needs to not be scared. Mates will never leave you, even stupid twins with pretty faces.”
She lifted up on her elbows to watch him as his snout nuzzled
her belly. “You think the twins are pretty?”
“Pretty, vain, our cock is bigger.”
She laughed at the words. “Size isn’t everything.”
“Takes two of them to do what we can do.”
“They could argue there are two of you in one body.”
He turned his head from where he sniffed her armpit and
snorted before lowering his head to sniff her crotch.
“Whoa, big guy, we’re not there yet.”
“Mate smells good. Want to taste.”
“Orson, my entire family is going to descend in minutes, you cannot be serious,” she tried to push his huge head away from where he was trying to pry her legs open. She was laughing now as he was truly behaving like the animal he was, being pushy and growling as he tried to put his nose 10/13

where it was not supposed to be. Her eyes widened as she heard Bar’s voice reprimanding him very clearly. “I can hear you both at the same time!”
“We are one and the same. I was trying to give him space but dammit Orson, put your dick away and shift back. You’re violating her in too many ways.”
“She is smiling and laughing. Our mate is not scared of me.”
“Let her up,” Bar hissed angrily. “Do you really want Vaughns‘ parents to meet us while you’re sniffing her like this? You have no dignity.”
“Mate is laughing. She has the best laugh.”
“I agree but let her up.”
Jacqueline watched as Orson slowly backed up and then sat on his hind quarters with a harrumph. If ever there was a perfect depiction of dejection it was this beast pouting a few feet away from her. She got up on her knees and wrapped her arms around his thick chest.
“Orson, we will have all kinds of time for you to sniff me all over,” she couldn’t believe the words coming from her lips. 11/13

“Love mate,” Orson sighed happily as he accepted her
embrace.
“What is going on here?” Wilder’s voice called out from the edge of the forest.
“I’m meeting my mate,” Jacqueline called out happily. “Look
at him Wilder. His name is Orson! Isn’t he incredible? Look
how big he is.”
“I can see how big he is,” Wilder tilted his head to look at the underbelly of the beast. “You feeling a little randy there,
Orson?”
“Want mate,” he growled.
Jacqueline rubbed his snout. “You will have your chance with your mate, Orson. I will talk to Mother and find out how we
can make it work.”
She was still hugging him when she heard Wilder’s confused hiss. She turned to look at him and saw him staring at the icy
version of Jacinta. She pulled her lips back and looked into Orson’s eyes. “It might be time to shift back, Orson. I think I
need Bar back.”
