Wilder, Rafferty and Bar were leaning against the side of the house while they watched Jacqueline talking to her parents and Jack. As silly as they’d thought this game was, watching her laugh and connect with them and their families turned

out to be everything their mate needed.

“She’s beautiful.”

The quiet comment from Bar made Wilder smile softly, “she

is.”

“We are the luckiest bastards on the fucking planet, you both know that right?”

“Yup.” Wilder nodded.

Rafferty took a long deep breath before exhaling slowly, “she’s in my every thought, waking or dreaming. Her scent, her touch, her smile. She consumes me constantly.”

“I couldn’t find her.” Bar said quietly. “I scented her the minute you all arrived into town, but her scent was muted–1:20

yammering on about her mates and I was screaming inside that she didn’t have other mates. Then you came in

and I could see it in your faces. She is yours and when she

fate too. I intended to talk to her the next morning. Give her

time to get settled into the town, you know, and then I caught

sight of her with your sister on the mountain skiing, which by the way, she is not allowed to ever go skiing alone.”

“What why? Did someone hit on her?” Rafferty questioned

seriously.

“She’s like a fawn on ice. She couldn’t ski if her life depended

on it. She’s bloody useless on skis. I was watching her with my

heart in my throat the entire time. Thought for sure her neck was going to snap. Our mate is not athletic.”

Wilder chuckled at his words. “That bad?”

Bar nodded, “I thought about videoing her but then was terrified if she rejected me, I’d have her on my phone forever and I’d find myself in the dark of my den watching it on repeat forever.”

“It must have killed you to watch her walk away and not acknowledge the bond.” Wilder patted his shoulder gently. “She saw the gold bond with me when we touched hands, but she flat out called me crazy, said I was doing magic tricks and asked me if I was doing a hazing thing since it was her first big account with the company.”

Bar laughed lowly, “she’s feisty.”

“She’s smart, Bar. She thinks fast on her feet, she thinks

outside the box and she thinks rationally.”

“We are lucky,” Bar commented again.

Rafferty smiled as Jacqueline squealed when her brother chased her and lifted her up in the air and swung her around. Her face was an open expression of joy as Jack held her around the waist, his chest to her back and he twirled her in a big circle.

“She’s happy.”

“She is.”

“Do you know who isn’t happy?”

All three of their eyes swiveled to where Jacinta was sitting in

a block of ice.

“What’s her deal?” Bar asked the twins curiously. “I don’t know her real well. I know she’s Jack’s sister and I’ve seen her in diplomatic meetings and whatever, but I’ve never really had any kind of interaction with her. She always gave me the vibe of an entitled brat princess with nothing between her ears but thinking they are the most important person in the room.” He paused, “reminds me of my older brother. Thinks he’s the shit but he’s an asshole to anyone he thinks beneath

him.”

“About sums it up,” Wilder said quietly. “There was a time when she was an amazing person. She was the first person to help someone who was in trouble. She was funny and she

could read a room well.”

“What happened to her?” Bar looked to the frozen woman in

confusion.

“Her father became king. When her grandfather passed away and she was moved from the suites where her family resided into the suites held by the king and queen and their

families, she started to change.”

“She got bitchy,” Rafferty added. “The housekeeping staff she played hide–and–seek with as a kid, turned into servants she could order around. The friends she considered equals; she

weeded out to include only those who would pander to her and kiss her ass. The things we used to do to have fun, she considered beneath her. We would all go hiking to some of our favorite spots, waterfalls, glaciers, and she would show up in heels and dresses and whine and complain about the

entire endeavor.”

“Because her father was king?”

“And it made her princess.”

“Did she ever consider that if anything happens to her parents, Jack becomes king and his children become the real princes and princesses and she will likely need to vacate the rooms she’s in?” Bar questioned knowing full well she could

hear.

“My guess is this is why she tried to chase Aspen off. Thankfully, Aspen is a smart woman and loves her mate and not even a jealous little sister could chase her off.”

“Why did she get rid of Jacqueline?” Bar questioned.

interact with the woman she tried to get rid of knowing that

she’s at the mercy of said woman. There are only two ways that woman is feeling.”

“And they are?”

“Remorseful, deep, sorrowful remorse which is aching in her with a burning need to feel forgiveness of her family.”

“And the other?”

Bar tilted his chin in the direction of the knife shiny under the

ice, “murderous with rage.”

“We will need to keep our mate safe.”

“Yes we will.”

“How do you think this is going to work? The three of us?” Rafferty asked Bar.

“What do you mean?”

“Logistics? You’re not going to love living in the city and Jacqueline was thrilled to get a job where she could make money for herself.”

“She does like money,” Bar acknowledged. “She said it more

than once, but I also think the new role she’s found out she

needs to fulfill is going to be far more important than solving problems for the rich and famous and it’s going to be more time consuming as well.”

“Where does the Queen of Queens and Kings need to live? She’s not the queen of the Southern Realm and not the queen

of the northern realm. She isn’t meant to live in the realm of

any of the shifters. Where does that leave her?” Wilder asked

with a frown.

“She’ll need a temple and a body of water to connect to the Queen Mother,” Bar said seriously. “She was able to talk to her through a bowl of water in my living room. Imagine what she could do with a spring or waterfall.”

“I guess.” Wilder looked back to Jacqueline.

“You know that she isn’t going to want to go back to the city. She was so happy to be in the garden of her mother she

almost didn’t come back. She felt peace there. She’s going to need a place to feel connected to her mother.”

“Why are you upset, Wilder?” Rafferty questioned his brother

curiously.

“I’m not. I’m thinking of how much money I’ll make when I sell off my company. If my mate needs a nest egg to make her feel secure, I’ll donate the entire proceeds of the company. We could build her a place anywhere in the world. It will need to be a place where everyone who needs to pray to the Queen Mother or the Queen of Kings and Queens can

access.”

“I have an idea,” Bar said with a shrug.

“What are you thinking?”

“There is a chunk of land for sale not far from here. We can

build a place befitting the Queen. It has a spring but it’s not a hot one but I think our Frost queen won’t mind the cold.”

throat. “I feel she would be more comfortable if you were

also here.”

“You want us to stay here with you and Jacqueline?”

“Seriously?” Wilder was weak in the knees at the prospect.

“She’s too important for me to be selfish with. She is comfortable with you.”

“Bar, she will be comfortable with you too. We’ve had a few weeks over you in terms of time.”

“Please.”

“Bar asked if we could all stay here tonight.” Rafferty rushed the words. “Would you be open to all four of us being together tonight?”

“You will feel more secure knowing you won’t be alone with

“With Orson on edge, I’d rather have them here.”

“You don’t trust your beast?”

“I trust him to want to rut like the animal he is,” Bar grunted.

“Hey,” Jack’s voice came up from behind them. “I think we’ve decided I’m the winner right?”

“I don’t know, Jack. Building a sculpture of yourself does not make for the prettiest sculpture.” Jacqueline giggled.

“And making bear cubs is cute?”

“I think they’re adorable.”

“I think there would be no place safer for her than in this form in the temple with the high priestess.” He commented seriously, “I feel the priestess can make sure she is safe

and secure better than any castle guard that Jacinta might seduce into submission.”

Bar smiled knowingly as he looked at his mate, “that is our mate telling us she wants us to take her inside and make the bond stronger.”

With that he hiked her over his shoulder, slapped her

backside, and called after the twins, “last one inside is stuck locking up!”
