Chapter 48: Chapter 48

TESSA POV

I had been slipping in and out of consciousness for a couple of days now while my body tried to mend from the poisons. And the morning that I did wake up and I felt completely lucid it took me several minutes for everything to register. The attack at home, being shot and poisoned and kidnapped.

I looked around the room that I was in. It was pretty basic for a mansion that we were in. There was only a bed and a single chair across the room from me. I felt a sharp pain around my ankle and I looked down to see the silver shackle around my leg that was attached to the bed.

I started kicking my leg. Trying to get it to break the bed leg but I wasn’t strong enough yet. Then I heard the door handle turning and I shimmied back against the back of the bed and I rested my hands over my stomach.

A man walked in, who was obviously a vampire, and he turned the light on but it was still pretty dull.

"Relax. I’m not going to hurt you. I promise. My name is Sawyer." He says coming inside with a tray of food and he closed the door. He approached slowly and put the food next me on the bed but I was obviously hesitant about taking it.

"You need to eat. You’re pregnant." He says.

"You think I don’t know that." I spat at him.

"Keep your voice down. You don’t want those other men to hear you, do you?" He asked. " I need to check your injuries. Is that alright with you?" He asked.

"Is this some sort of dumb trick? Get me to trust you and give you all the secrets for that bitch to take out my pack?" I asked accusingly.

"No. I promise. I am not here because I want to be. But now that she has you, I’m glad that I am. I don’t want her to hurt you or your baby. I know who you are. I heard the others talking. I also knew Josiah. I really wish I didn’t, but unfortunately I did." He explains.

"Angelo killed Josiah. I don’t know why he still wanted me after I told him that I couldn’t have pups. The guy was twisted." I say.

"Yeah. Especially since you’re his niece." Sawyer says as he started checking my shoulder wound. But as soon as he said that I pulled away from him.

"What did you just say?" I asked.

"What?" He asked confused.

"Josiah was my uncle?" I asked.

"Oh my god. I thought you knew. He was Angelo’s brother. But he went off the rails and didn’t want anything to do with the rest of the family and he hooked up with Katherine and them two were inseparable." Sawyer explained.

"How long were they together?" I asked as he started looking at my shoulder wound again.

"About 550 years. Give or take. I’m not too sure." He says.

"Is she going to kill me once I have my baby? The men said that they wanted my baby." I say.

"I don’t know what her plans are for that. She doesn’t share that shit with me." He says.

"Why not? You’re in her inner circle." I say.

"No. I’m not. Katherine is insane. And I’m only here because she has got people watching some human’s that I have come to care about. And if I don’t do what she says that she’s gonna order their deaths." Sawyer says. But I look at him skeptically.

"I don’t blame you for not trusting me. But you do need to trust me when I say that I have to change these bandages." He says.

"Alright." I say. So he grabbed some other supplies from the tray that he bought in and he pulled off the wound dressings and he cleaned it out again which made me hiss in pain. And he recovered it.

"They are healing. But slowly. They will definitely leave scars." He says.

"I know. Silver always does with us." I say. Then the door opened and one of the big scary vampires was standing there.
