The Stand-In Who Burned the Script novel Chapter 120

Chapter 120

In the car, the man had already asked for the time three times. Simon checked his watch and frantically tried to smooth things over. “Miss Fairchild is probably… just taking her time picking something out. It’s for the old master, after all. Don’t worry, Boss.”

Silas shot a frosty look toward the front. “You seem to understand her perfectly.”

“No… I don’t.”

Simon’s smile looked more like a grimace. That was the boss’s wife-he didn’t dare pretend to understand her.

Rush hour had hit, and the crowd outside the mall was thickening.

Security guards kept throwing wary glances at their vehicle… Technically, parking here for this long was prohibited, but given the make of the car, they were too terrified of offending a

VIP to intervene.

Just as Silas’s patience was about to completely snap, the rear door swung open.

“Ta-da!”

The woman’s bright, cheerful voice rang out.

Accompanied by a heavy, overwhelming scent of roses, she shoved a massive bouquet right in front of him. “Smell it! Do you like it? I bought them for you.”

“You wasted all this time just to get this garbage?”

“What’s wrong with it?”

Vivian took a sniff. “It smells amazing.”

“Get it away from me.” The man’s expression was thunderous, bordering on outright furious.

Vivian’s smile faltered, unable to believe he could be so heartless. “Mr. Sterling, you can’t be this ruthless, right? I bought you flowers. Even if you’re not deeply moved, you could at least say thank you.”

Silas shot her a razor-sharp glare, the intensity of it making her feel entirely exposed.

“Thank you?”

He reached out and grabbed the bouquet. Vivian assumed he was finally accepting it, but in the next second, the man cleanly rolled down the window-

And tossed the flowers straight out.

He rolled the window back up.

“Don’t do something so pointless ever again. It’s incredibly annoying.”

The entire sequence was so smooth and swift that Vivian hadn’t even had time to react.

She blinked, mourning the absolute pristine quality of those blooms.

Silas couldn’t see her expression, nor did he care. He simply turned his head and ordered Simon, “Drive.”

Simon snuck a glance at Vivian, convinced she was on the verge of tears.

He opened his mouth, hesitating.

Ultimately, he kept quiet, stepping on the gas and speeding toward The Manor.

Vivian wasn’t actually that upset. While buying them, she had braced herself for a much

worse reaction.

Thankfully, the man had a shred of decency and hadn’t simply smashed the bouquet into her

face.

The Manor was located in the Upper East Side, styled like a grand, traditional courtyard

estate.

By the time they arrived, it was nearly seven o’clock, right on time for dinner.

Stepping through the gates, the first thing they saw was an elaborate, winding water feature in the center of the courtyard. A row of lush bamboo lined the walls, and the meticulously maintained greenery screamed old money.

Vivian was wearing high heels and nearly tripped on the cobblestone path. She instinctively reached out to grab the person next to her, and the man reflexively banded his arm around

her waist.
