The Stand-In Who Burned the Script novel Chapter 168

Chapter 168

“My fault.”

“But I’m hurt. Look, it’s bleeding.”

Realizing that sounded overly dramatic, she tried to pull back, but the man seized her wrist and dragged her over to the sink to run it under cold water.

As he moved, his foot kicked the fallen knife with a sharp clatter.

Silas bent down, picked up the knife and the cutting board, and set them onto the counter

He turned back around.

The woman thrust her hand back toward him.

“It hurts.”

It was a moderate slice, still welling with blood.

Whether it truly hurt or not, the absolute reliance and sheer sorrow written across her face made her look as fragile as a shattered porcelain doll.

When he didn’t move, Vivian wrapped her arms around him, burying her face into his chest and nuzzling against him affectionately.

Silas shut his eyes for a moment before raising a hand to pat her shoulder.

“Let go.”

“No.”

Vivian’s voice was muffled against his shirt. “I’m starving, my stomach hurts, and despite all that, I still wanted to make you food. Now I’ve sliced my hand open, and you don’t even care.”

“When did I ever say I didn’t care?”

She looked up, her beautiful face filled with demanding petulance.

“Then why did you tell me to let go?”

Silas took a heavy breath. Ultimately, he didn’t say a word, just grabbed her uninjured hand with a stony expression and led her out.

In the living room, he pushed her down onto the sofa.

“Sit still.”

Vivian hummed softly, watching as he walked over to a cabinet, pulled out the first aid kit, and returned.

He tossed it onto the coffee table.

“Find it yourself.”

Vivian stared at him without moving an inch.

“There are bandages inside.”

“Oh.”

Holding her injured hand awkwardly in the air, she used her good hand to clumsily pry the box open.

The bandages were right on top. She picked one up and held it out along with her bleeding finger. “Here. Put it on for me.”

The man glanced at her but made no move to help.

“Hurry up, I’m about to faint from blood loss.”

This time, Silas snatched the bandage from her hand, scoffing. “Do you need me to take you to the ER? If we wait much longer, the wound might heal on its own.”

Rather than applying the bandage immediately, he leaned over and fished out some cotton swabs and iodine.

The sanitizing process was far from smooth, with the yellow liquid dripping all over Vivian’s hand. Considering Silas was blind, it was perfectly understandable.

She gently took the used swab from his fingers and dropped it into the trash.

Then, she guided his large hand over her injured finger.

“Put it right here.”

Silas’s eyes darkened as he applied the bandage with a less-than-gentle touch.

Before he could do anything else, the woman let her head drop onto his shoulder. She

wrapped her arms around his bicep and murmured softly, “I’m so exhausted. Let me rest for a second.”

“Is this massive sofa not enough for you to lie down on?”

Silas shifted away. “Move.”

“You seriously don’t have a single tender bone in your body for me.”

Vivian’s face was a little pale. She let go and sat up straight, grumbling under her breath. “Expecting anything from you is hopeless… but I have to eat something, or I’m going to pass out. Just give me a minute, the pasta won’t take long.”
