The Stand-In Who Burned the Script novel Chapter 181

Chapter 181

That unique scent drifted into her nose with the breeze.

“An explanation?”

His tone was indifferent, as if he had no idea what kind of explanation was needed. Then, he nodded solemnly. “You’re right. Gather all the evidence. Tomorrow, you’re coming with me to see Richard Fowler.”

A sudden crack of thunder shattered the sky, the lightning illuminating the heavy silhouettes of the dark clouds.

It was about to rain.

Vivian had claimed she wanted to sleep with Silas, but in reality, she never returned after her shower.

With a woman he… didn’t exactly favor sleeping next to him, it would be a miracle if he could get any rest.

At six-thirty in the morning, a rhythmic knock on the door woke her up. Vivian ran a hand through her hair and sat up, hearing Mrs. Gable calling from the hallway, “Miss Fairchild, Mr. Sterling wants you up for breakfast. He said you two are heading out soon.”

“I got it.”

Silas was taking her out?

Pigs must really be flying.

Vivian quickly shook off her sleep, got dressed, and headed downstairs.

The man was lounging gracefully on the living room sofa, having clearly finished his breakfast. He was waiting for her.

“Morning, Mr. Sterling,” Vivian greeted with a radiant smile. A second later, she stepped forward, ready to plant a morning kiss on him.

Before she could take two steps, the man’s cold voice rang out. “Stand right there.”

“…I just wanted a quick kiss.”

His gaze turned predatory. Catching the warning before he could lose his temper, Vivian quickly took a step back. “Fine, fine, no kissing. Calm down. Being angry this early in the morning is bad for your health.”

Standing in the background, Mrs. Gable watched their exchange. She wanted to laugh but didn’t dare, keeping her head down as she struggled to hold it in.

Vivian headed to the dining room for breakfast, her eyes darting toward the living room every so often.

“Miss Fairchild.”

Mrs. Gable poured her a glass of fresh milk, clearly wanting to be part of the little morning theater. She lowered her voice and whispered, “Mr. Sterling is actually in a pretty good mood today.”

“Oh.” That meant she could tease him a little more.

Vivian took a sip of her milk. “Thanks, Mrs. Gable.”

She finished her breakfast quickly, rinsing her mouth before walking out.

But before she could even reach the sofa, Silas had already stood up. His long, steady strides carried him right past her in a blur.

“Wait for me!”

Vivian jogged to catch up, naturally linking her arm through his.

Simon Young had been waiting for a while. Seeing them walk out, he immediately pulled open the rear car door. “Mr. Sterling. Miss Fairchild.”

Vivian shot him a bright smile, which only made Simon blush awkwardly.

He wasn’t sure if it was just his imagination, but in that split second, he felt a sharp, piercing glare shoot toward him. When he looked over, his boss was already seated in the car, looking as cold and intimidating as ever.

Was it… just his imagination?

He rubbed his nose and got into the driver’s seat.

It was only seven o’clock, so traffic was light. The drive to Central Hospital took barely forty minutes.
