The Stand-In Who Burned the Script novel Chapter 207

Chapter 207

“…Silas and I don’t care about meaningless titles!”

“You mean you don’t care, right?”

Vivian clicked her tongue in mock sympathy. “I’m suddenly feeling a bit sorry for my Silas. He loved you with all his heart for years, only to have his confession thrown back in his face,

leaving him utterly heartbroken… You really are quite the expert at playing with people’s emotions, Miss Gifford.”

Furious, Grace snapped, “What kind of nonsense are you spouting?!”

“Alright, I’ll stop talking then.”

Vivian’s tone was breezy and light. “If I keep talking, I might wake Silas up. Goodnight, Miss Gifford.”

With that, she hung up.

She stared at the phone screen for a long moment, a faint smile playing on her lips.

It was hard to say whether it was a smile of mockery or something else entirely.

Thanks to that little phone call, Vivian actually slept exceptionally well. The next morning, she opened her bedroom door just as Silas was walking past. Beaming brightly, she practically lunged at him and planted a quick kiss on his cheek.

“Good morning, Mr. Sterling.”

“My phone.”

Silas looked entirely unfazed by her sudden display of affection, his face an unreadable

mask.

“Oh, right.” Vivian stepped back into her room, retrieved the phone, and offered it to him with both hands.

Just as the man reached for it, she yanked it back.

“This is the second time, you know.”

Silas frowned deeply. “Second time for what?”

“The second time you’ve locked me out of your room. There’s a saying: ‘Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. If there’s a third time, I’m going to be genuinely angry.”

“By that logic, should I be thanking Miss Fairchild for her boundless mercy?”

“No need for all that.”

Vivian leaned in and pressed her cheek against his shoulder. “Just sleeping with me will do

Silas snatched the phone from her hand without a word. He cast a sideways glance at the woman draped over his shoulder. The soft flesh of her cheek was squished against his suit jacket, making her look surprisingly flushed and radiant.

His eyes darkened. He pressed his tongue against his back teeth and said in a low voice, “Do you not have bones?”

“Nope.”

The woman sounded utterly shameless. “I want to grow them onto you.”

Silas let out a scoff, ignored her entirely, and headed downstairs.

Vivian was about to follow him when her phone buzzed in her pocket. Seeing the caller ID, her pupils dilated slightly in shock. She let it ring for a few moments before finally answering. “Hello.”

The person on the other end paused before a deep, melodious voice spoke. “Vivian, why didn’t you tell me you were heading back to Northside?”

“I…”

Vivian lowered her eyes, suddenly entirely unsure of what to say.

“I only heard the news after I flew back to the country. My brother said he contacted a top-tier psychologist for you. Let me know when you’re free, and I’ll bring the doctor to you. Or would you rather come to Bayport?”

“I’m completely fine now.”

“If you were fine, would you really have been content hiding out in Southampton for three years?”

“How are things with that guy now?”
