Chapter 229
Before Silas could answer, his phone rang.
He stepped aside to take the call.
Curiosity getting the better of her, Vivian leaned over to whisper to the butler. “Does Miss Huxley have some sort of grudge against my Silas?”
“It’s ancient history, really.” The butler sighed helplessly, lowering his voice. “Don’t let Mr. Sterling’s quiet demeanor fool you. When he was a boy, he was quite the troublemaker. He and our lady fought constantly, always needing to see who was best. Since our lady never won… well, she’s held onto that grudge ever since.”
It was genuinely hard for Vivian to picture Silas ever acting like that.
As for Audrey, she was certainly a force to be reckoned with.
She let out a soft laugh just as Silas returned from his call.
“Why don’t I race her for you?”
Silas furrowed his brow slightly. “She’s acting like a child. Just ignore her.”
Audrey, having just returned from changing into her riding gear, overheard him. Her pent-up anger flared all over again. “Who’s acting like a child?! Are you out of your mind, Silas? I’m two months older than you! If I’m a child, what the hell are you?”
She spun to face Vivian.
“You’re going to ride for him?”
Vivian’s gaze swept over her. The fiery red riding habit clung perfectly to her athletic frame, her long hair pulled high into a tight ponytail. She looked every bit the fierce, conquering warrior.
“Is that against the rules?”
She smiled sweetly. “My Silas isn’t in a position to ride right now. Surely a family member stepping in as his champion is acceptable?”
Audrey narrowed her eyes, keeping quiet.
She had heard the whispers about what just happened on the tracks.
But looking at this woman, with her flawless skin and delicate frame, it was impossible to believe she was actually an expert rider. The rumors had probably been blown completely out of proportion just because she was insanely beautiful.
“If you want to ride in his place, I won’t stop you. But let me be perfectly clear: if you get yourself killed out there, it’s not my problem. Silas-”

Audrey crossed her arms over her chest, letting out a sharp huff Today is the day I wipe t slate clean!”
Silas tightened his grip slightly, his eyes locked onto Vivian.
She merely winked at him.
I’ve got this.
In the end, he didn’t stop her. His gaze remained dark, his thoughts completely unreadable.
Word of the showdown spread like wildfire. The CEO of Sterling Enterprises was facing off against the host of the event. The crowd buzzed with anticipation, utterly thrilled by the unfolding drama.
“Where are they? Can you see them?”
“Right over there!”
“Isn’t Mr. Sterling blind? I heard his girlfriend is riding in his place.”
“What? Then she’s definitely going to lose. Everyone knows Miss Huxley is practically a professional equestrian. Who even is his girlfriend?”
Not a single person in the stands knew Vivian’s background.
The only thing they could focus on was Silas’s breathtakingly perfect face.
Sitting effortlessly among the crowd, he commanded the attention of the entire venue without moving a muscle. With his chiseled, flawless features and his lethally intimidating presence, he was impossible to miss.
Whoever started the rumor that Silas Sterling was ugly had completely lost their mind. With a face like that, women would throw themselves at him even if he were paralyzed from the neck down!
Amidst the deafening gossip, Vivian emerged from the far end of the arena, leading her
