Chapter 237
“We have a flight tonight.”
“Oh, mine is this afternoon.”
Which meant they wouldn’t be traveling together.
Just as Simon was about to leave, Vivian called out to stop him. “Your boss might look completely ice-cold, but he’s actually very polite… What I mean is, he doesn’t really know how to reject women. You need to keep a close eye on him for me.”
Simon froze for a second, then smiled.
“Miss Fairchild, the boss doesn’t have anyone else around him.”
Right. No one else.
Just her, and Grace Gifford.
But seeing the people downstairs, Vivian felt like it wouldn’t be entirely impossible for Grace to show up here.
That was a D-list actress down there.
According to the gossip rags, she was very close friends with Grace.
Simon didn’t entirely understand, but he nodded respectfully and agreed.
Silas didn’t come back, nor did he call again.
Vivian knew her antics last night had probably annoyed him a bit, so giving him space was the right move. She packed her bags and headed to the airport to meet up with Charlie.
“Vivian, I thought you had already left.”
“Why would I do that?”
Vivian hooked her sunglasses onto the collar of her shirt and smiled. “We came together, so of course we should go back together. I’m not the type to abandon a friend for a guy.”
A brief flash of something crossed Charlie’s eyes, though his expression barely changed. “Do you mind if I ask what your relationship is with this Mr. Sterling?”
Vivian knew that even if he hadn’t seen it with his own eyes, the gossip would have reached his ears in some form or another.
“I’m pursuing him.”
She put on a theatrical sigh.
“I just didn’t expect him to be this difficult. I’ve tried everything, but I still can’t lock him down. Maybe you have some advice for me, Mr. Beck?”
This was genuinely surprising. Charlie looked at her in disbelief. “There’s actually a man out there who would reject you?”

Chapter 237
“Of course. I didn’t see it coming either.”
“But this Mr. Sterling…”
Charlie searched his memory for the name and quickly found the match. He offered a helpless, apologetic look. “I haven’t had the chance to officially meet him yet, but from what I hear, he is a very formidable man.”
“Of course he is.”
A subtle trace of pride naturally laced Vivian’s tone. “Otherwise, why would he catch my eye?”
“Fair point.”
“I’m definitely going to succeed. When the time comes, I’ll send you a wedding invitation.”
Charlie laughed out loud, happily accepting the premature invite.
Traveling together had its perks, the most obvious being that she wouldn’t be bored.
Vivian slept through the flight and touched down in Northside feeling completely refreshed. She decided not to have Charlie drop her off and just grabbed a cab back to the estate.
She had only been gone for two days, but looking at this familiar yet foreign villa, she actually felt a sense of belonging.
Martha was in the yard pruning bushes, humming an old, obscure song.
