Chapter 239
“No, no, not at all!” Martha waved her hands frantically. “At first… there was this one time Mr. Sterling’s friends came over for drinks. Miss Gifford had a bit too much and ended up staying the night. Later, she took the initiative to say she wanted to keep a room here, and Mr. Sterling just didn’t bother arguing with her.”
“But Miss Gifford hasn’t even stayed here more than twice in total. Nothing ever happened between them, Miss Fairchild. Please don’t overthink it.”
Silas was still a virgin.
Vivian obviously knew nothing had happened between them.
She smiled. “Even if they didn’t go all the way, how do you know they didn’t sleep in the same bed?”
After all, she was the woman he liked. When a man is in love, it’s only natural for his thoughts to wander. Silas didn’t strike her as the type to strictly adhere to puritanical boundaries just for the sake
of it.
“Because Mr. Sterling isn’t the type of man to mess around! He has an incredibly strong sense of propriety. Back then, since he and Miss Gifford hadn’t officially established a relationship, he absolutely wouldn’t have tried anything.”
Martha spoke with absolute sincerity, every word ringing with total conviction in Silas’s character.
Vivian was secretly amazed. She hadn’t expected this man to be such a puritan.
Finished with the flowers, she took her luggage upstairs.
Everything in Grace’s former room had already been completely thrown out by her. Even after completely redecorating it, she had only slept in there for one night.
Vivian stood in the doorway for a moment and let out a soft, inexplicable chuckle.
She returned to the master bedroom.
After unpacking her luggage and taking a shower, she walked out to find the sky outside already turning dark.
She sent Simon a text asking if they had boarded their flight. Just as she exited the chat, a text from an unknown number popped onto her screen.
[I’ve been discharged from the hospital. Are you coming to see me, or am I coming to you?]
Was this… Jonah?
Vivian’s eyebrows twitched slightly. She ignored it.
Ten minutes later, the person on the other end just called her directly.
Jonah was dead set on seeing her. Even if she blocked his number, he would just find another way.
Vivian flipped the phone over in her palm, lazily pressing the answer button. “Hello.”
The line was silent for a long moment. During that time, only the man’s heavy, ragged breathing could

be heard.
“If you’re not going to speak, I’m hanging up.”
“Vivian!”
Jonah’s voice was hoarse, filled with an indescribable mix of suppression and restraint. “Come out.”
“You tell me to come out, and I just come out?” Vivian’s voice lacked any fluctuation, not even holding
a trace of coldness.
The best way to turn the page on someone wasn’t with hatred or hysterical screaming. It was pure, unadulterated apathy.
Having an emotional reaction meant you still cared.
Vivian just couldn’t be bothered anymore.
“I’m at the gate.”
