The Stand-In Who Burned the Script novel Chapter 240

Chapter 240

The lighting outside was dim. They stood separated, one inside the car, one outside, as if completely cut off in two different worlds.

The grip Jonah had on the steering wheel tightened gradually, before he finally let go abruptly.

He pushed the door open and stepped out.

“Vivian-”

His handsome face was completely taut, as if he had a million words lodged in his throat, but facing her now, he couldn’t push a single one out.

Vivian tilted her head. “What exactly do you want to say?”

“You…”

Jonah took a deep breath, his voice hoarse. “I don’t blame you, and I won’t hold you responsible for anything. But… can you just give me one more chance?”

Lately, his mind had been entirely consumed by memories of their past. By her.

Everything she had ever done for him, which he had so easily taken for granted at the time, had suddenly become agonizingly clear.

He couldn’t live without her.

“No.”

One sharp, decisive word. Completely devoid of warmth.

Vivian looked him dead in the eyes. “Jonah, I don’t know what wire crossed in your brain, but since you made your choice, stop flip-flopping and wallowing in regret. It’s too late.”

“It’s not.”

Jonah clenched his fists, then suddenly reached out and grabbed her hand.

“I know you blame me. You blame me for treating Amara too well, you blame me for ignoring you all those years, and you blame me for having someone run you over with that car…”

“But during these days in the hospital, I finally figured it out. Maybe this is just a test from God? Vivian, we had three solid years together. You can’t just erase that. You can’t be this cruel to me….”

Unlike his past behavior, which was always half-threatening and half-domineering.

Today, he sounded genuinely desperate.

Vivian looked into his eyes, seeing her own reflection perfectly mirrored in them.

“I’m cruel to you?” She let out a cold, detached laugh. “Jonah, you didn’t actually think you could guilt-trip me, did you? Because you’re dead wrong. I don’t have any morals, so no one can hold me hostage with them.”

The warmth from the man’s fingers seeped into her skin, feeling incredibly foreign.

Chapter 240

Vivian looked down at their hands and suddenly spoke.

“Remember when I used to try and hold your hand, and you always said you hated it? It took me a long time to realize you didn’t hate it-you were just saving yourself for Amara Fairchild. What? Did you finally realize she wasn’t as easy to sleep with as you thought, so now you want to dump her and come running back?”

Jonah’s brow furrowed tightly, but he still refused to let go of her hand.

“Whether you believe me or not, Amara and I never actually went all the way.”

Every time they got close, the face of the woman standing right in front of him would hijack his mind.

“Okay. You don’t need to explain.”

Why would she care anyway?

Vivian stared at him blankly, letting a long moment pass before saying softly, “Giving you another chance isn’t entirely impossible, but I have two conditions.”
