The Stand-In Who Burned the Script novel Chapter 253

Chapter 253

The dense night felt deeply stained, the distant sky pitch-black without a moon or a single visible star.

Northside had always been arid. After a day of baking under the sun, the plants in the yard drooped listlessly.

Vivian didn’t bother turning on the downstairs lights and headed straight up.

The study door was cracked open, faint murmurs of conversation spilling into the hallway.

Her eyes glinted. She kicked off her shoes, carried them in her hands, and padded softly over.

“Yes, I’ll find time to meet with them. Have the project department draft a detailed proposal for the execution plan.”

The rich baritone flowed from the man’s lips. His face was bathed in a soft glow, his posture both commanding and languid. The undeniable aura of sheer masculinity he exuded was intoxicating.

“What’s the status on the northern resort?”

He was deeply engrossed in his phone call, completely oblivious to Vivian’s presence.

A mischievous curve tipped the corner of her mouth. Exaggerating her movements with deliberate pauses, she quickly closed the distance to his desk.

Before she could make her move, the man suddenly reached out and grabbed her arm.

“Ah-”

Losing her balance, Vivian fell right into his lap.

Silas Sterling cast a dark, piercing glance at her. “Nothing. The cat at home is causing trouble again. Go on.”

“…” Vivian widened her eyes, deciding to just make herself comfortable. She nestled into his chest, cupping her face as she stared up at him.

Suddenly, a wicked urge took over.

“The Grangers-” Mmh.

The sensation against his lips was real and incredibly soft, accompanied by the familiar, sweet scent of the woman in his arms.

Vivian kept her eyes wide open, studying his unreadable expression. A second later, she looped her arms around his neck and gave his lip a tentative lick.

The man’s gaze darkened significantly, but he didn’t move.

The person on the other end of the line hadn’t noticed anything amiss, assuming Silas had just paused to listen, and kept talking.

“The Granger family hasn’t made a move yet, Mr. Sterling. Personally, I think… anyone who looks into it will realize Mr. Lawson brought the project to you first. The Grangers probably won’t retaliate.”

Silas reached up with his free hand, gripping the back of Vivian’s neck to pull her away.

“Understood.”

He shot a warning glare at the woman in his lap, his voice turning raspy. “If there’s nothing else, we’ll discuss it at tomorrow’s meeting.”

He tossed his phone onto the desk and leaned back into his chair.

His casual posture was arrogant and utterly dominant.

“What kind of trouble are you stirring up now? Hmm?”

“I missed you.”

Vivian held up her hand, revealing a slanted heart drawn in pen on her palm. Inside the heart was the letter ‘S’, written with bold strokes, next to an entirely out-of-place smiley face.

“See? Even when I’m working, you’re all I think about. Yet you didn’t even call me once. Don’t you miss me at all?”

Silas didn’t even bat an eye. “You drew that downstairs just now, didn’t you?”

Vivian’s expression stiffened for a fraction of a second before she feigned outrage, lightly punching his chest. “How can you say that? You’re trampling all over my genuine feelings.”
