Chapter 256
He stood under the spray for several minutes.
The surface temperature had cooled down, but the fire roaring in his veins refused to die out.
It was half an hour later when Silas finally changed into his pajamas. He walked out of the guest room and headed to the master bedroom.
Naturally, the woman hadn’t docilely stayed under the cold water, but she hadn’t gone to sleep either. She was currently wrapped into a tight ball in the center of the bed, her eyes brimming with accusation and grievance the moment he walked in.
She genuinely looked chilled to the bone. Her face was pale, resembling a delicate flower trembling in a storm, looking as though she might shatter at the slightest touch.
“You went way too far.”
The statement lacked any real venom. Delivered in that pitiful, weak tone, it made him feel like a
complete monster.
Silas pressed his lips into a thin line and walked over to her.
“Have you thought it through?”
“Don’t talk to me.”
The shock of the cold water had made Vivian’s eyes instinctively red-rimmed. She radiated a fragile. yet stubbornly resilient aura. “You’re just a jerk.”
Silas’s gaze was deep, enveloping her like an invisible net.
After a moment of silence, he ordered in a low voice, “Go to sleep.”
“You have to apologize to me.”
She was in full-on battle mode, refusing to let him off the hook. Although she wasn’t screaming or throwing a tantrum, her tone was thick with reprimand and petulance. “If you don’t apologize, I’m not sleeping!”
“Then sit there all night. Use the time to clear that head of yours and stop filling it with useless garbage. I’m going to the guest room.”
Vivian ground her teeth. What a bastard!
Seeing that the man was actually about to leave, she threw off the blanket and launched herself onto
him.
Silas instinctively caught her, only then realizing she was wearing nothing but a flimsy silk nightgown-which was basically the same as wearing nothing at all.
The heat he had just managed to suppress surged back with a vengeance, threatening to incinerate

his sanity on the spot.
“It’s not like I committed a crime. I just wanted to be intimate with the man I like, is that so wrong?” The woman’s accusatory voice rang right next to his ear. “If I treated you the way you just treated me, wouldn’t you be furious? You probably would have thrown me in a river to feed the fish by now!”
Silas only had to lower his eyes slightly to see her.
Her face was a masterclass in acting. She executed the perfect blend of delicate vulnerability and coy reproach.
She must have washed her face after the shower, completely stripped of makeup. Yet her skin was flawless, translucent and smooth, highlighting her breathtaking features.
From the cold water, her skin was still icy to the touch.
Silas’s eyes darkened. He wrapped an arm around her waist and turned them around.
“Are you trying to run away again?” The woman tightened her grip around him. “Not allowed! If we’re having a cold war, you still have to apologize first!”
A cold war.
Putting it that way made it sound like…
Like they were an actual, deeply in love couple.
“Don’t you need to get into bed to sleep?” His voice was remarkably level as he picked her up and carried her to the mattress.
Vivian was secretly stunned but took the opportunity to burrow deeper into his embrace.
