Chapter 255
At this moment, mere inches separated them. The slightest shift in emotion couldn’t escape the other’s scrutiny.
Vivian bit her lip, a sudden chill gripping her heart.
It wasn’t that she couldn’t tell him.
It was just the wrong time.
Right now, this man neither trusted her nor harbored any real feelings for her. If she laid all her cards on the table, what would the outcome be?
Nobody knew.
And she wasn’t willing to gamble on it.
Those few short seconds felt as long as a century.
The suffocating sexual tension in the study slowly receded, leaving behind an undercurrent of taut apprehension.
“What’s wrong? Haven’t finished spinning your web yet?”
The man’s deep, resonant voice held no discernible emotion. Oddly enough, it gave off a deceptive aura of patient tenderness. Fake or not, Vivian’s specialty was climbing any ladder she was given.
She looked at him seriously, her slightly pouted lips carrying a hint of lingering dissatisfaction.
“What did I spin?”
“You tell me.”
“I didn’t even say anything, you did all the talking.” Her voice was soft and sweet. “You can’t keep treating me like this. Good thing I’m not a guy, or I would have lost my erection twice over by now.”
Silas looked up at the ceiling and sighed.
He leaned back into his chair.
The woman sat on the desk opposite him, her stunning face flushed with a peach-pink hue of arousal, looking like a blooming rose.
He just stared deeply at her, saying absolutely nothing.
Two seconds passed.
Vivian hopped down from the desk and smoothly straddled his lap. Face to face. In this position, certain physical reactions became impossible to hide.
She swallowed hard. She had originally planned to say something else, but under the man’s icy, hardened stare, she could only silently register the searing heat radiating from him.

Chapter 255
“I know you’ve never believed I just wanted to marry you for the sake of it, but your grandfather has been pushing the engagement between our families aggressively. You have to know that, right?”
“Dominic Fairchild is incredibly wary of the Sterling family, and he dotes on his other daughter, Amara. He would never let her marry you. Which means, one way or another, this burden was always going to fall on me.”
“Rather than passively accepting my fate, I chose to strike first. That’s my life motto.”
Vivian spoke calmly, as if discussing someone else’s affairs.
“Look at me now. Haven’t I practically cut ties with the Fairchilds?”
Silas’s face was grim. It was impossible to tell if her words were sinking in. “I already know everything you just said.”
“Because that’s all there is to it.”
Vivian scoffed. “What else could there possibly be?”
She shifted her hips slightly. The man immediately scowled and let out a muffled groan. It was a completely unguarded, instinctual reaction, entirely beyond his control.
Vivian’s lips curved upward. She leaned forward.
Pressing her soft curves against him.
“Does that feel good?”
“… Get off!”
“No.”
Vivian puffed out her cheeks, feigning extreme anger. “It’s bad enough you didn’t contact me all day, but I kiss you and you interrogate me? You’re so mean to me. If it’s going to be like this every time, how am I supposed to survive in this house?”
“You think you’re the one in the right here?”
“Of course. I have the marriage license to prove it.”
Her little expression was remarkably smug.
Realizing he wasn’t going to get anything more out of her, Silas couldn’t be bothered to waste any more breath. He hoisted her up by her hips, stood, and strode out of the room.
“Hey… where are we going?”
