Chapter 267
Catching his scrutinizing gaze, a flicker of light crossed Vivian’s eyes before she gently nuzzled her cheek against his. “Why aren’t you praising me? Look, I didn’t even bother you while you were working. I handled it all by myself.”
Silas’s lips curved upward in a smile that was hard to read-partly mocking, partly something else.
“Right. I’m actually very curious to know how Miss Fairchild managed it.”
“It was simple, really.”
She unclasped her hands from his neck, trailing her fingers down his arm until she grasped one of his fingers, playing with it idly. “Grace wanted to cause trouble for me, so I just gave her a little trouble right back. You know your ex-she’s soft-spoken and easily scared.”
Silas gave her a measured look, not appearing angry in the slightest.
“Did you go around terrorizing people?”
“How can you call it terrorizing?”
She pouted. “I had solid reasoning and evidence. At most, it was a negotiation.”
For both the Gifford and Fowler families to back off simultaneously, her bargaining chip had to be massive. She must have struck them right where it hurt the most.
He knew pressing her further wouldn’t get him the full truth.
With her half-truths and evasions, taking things at face value was usually enough.
“Hmm. You can talk the dead out of their graves. They never stood a chance against you.” The remark sounded like a compliment laced with sarcasm, masking his true thoughts.
“Let go, and go sit quietly over there.”
Just as Silas tried to step back, the woman leaned her soft body against him again.
“Hold me for a little longer.”
“Being overly clingy makes people annoyed, understand?”
He didn’t sound genuinely angry. So…
Pushing boundaries was Vivian’s specialty. She wrapped her arms tightly around his waist, pressing against his firm chest and tilting her head up, looking at him with puppy-dog eyes. “Then kiss me.”
Silas gazed down at her, clearly not intending to oblige.
But he didn’t push her away either.
“Could you try not acting like a boneless octopus? Hmm?”
The woman smiled as radiantly as a blooming flower. The subtle overhead lights reflected in her eyes, scattering like stars. “No. Besides, you’re obviously saying one thing and meaning another. Your heart is racing, your body isn’t rejecting my touch, and every single cell of yours is inviting me in. I can hear it.”

Chapter 267
He couldn’t be bothered to argue with her.
Silas let out a heavy sigh just as his phone rang. He brought it to his ear.
Simon Young’s voice came through. “Mr. Sterling… you mentioned scheduling a meeting in five minutes earlier. Are we still…” doing that?
His expression didn’t change as he peeled the woman’s hands off him and walked around the desk.
“Have them send up lunch. Two entrees, no spice.”
So, the meeting was off.
Simon let out a breath of relief. “Understood.”
The sharp clicking of the woman’s heels was exceptionally loud in the office as she trailed tap-tap-tap right behind Silas. Her clear, flirtatious voice rang out like a lively melody. “I refuse. I want spicy food. Spicy Cajun seafood boil and hot wings. And I want crab legs.”
Simon heard her clearly and hesitated. “Mr. Sterling?”
Should he accommodate Miss Fairchild’s request?
The man shot her a sideways glance. “Do as I said.”
“Understood. Also, Mr. Sterling, reception just called up to say Mr. Mercer is still in the lobby. Should
