Chapter 279
The man’s detached gaze swept over her briefly before he looked away, setting the food down on the table.
He walked over and first pressed the back of his hand to her forehead.
It was warm, but the fever had temporarily broken.
“Eat.”
Vivian’s eyes stayed locked on him, her arms still suspended in the air. Her tone was laced with disbelief. “I’m this sick, and you won’t even give me a hug?”
Silas stopped in his tracks, his striking profile turned toward her.
“Are you saying you won’t eat if I don’t hug you?”
Oh?
“Yup.”
“Then starve. You’re getting glucose through the IV anyway, you won’t die.”
“…” This man!
Vivian shoved her arms back under the blankets. Her pale face was devastatingly beautiful, looking at him with a mix of resentment and unspeakable grievance.
After a long moment, Silas opened the food container, scooped up a spoonful of vegetable broth, and brought it to her lips. His voice was low and steady. “Eat.”
Vivian broke into a grin and swallowed the soup.
See? She was so easy to appease.
“Why is it just broth? Is there no meat? I want meat.”
Silas looked up. “You’re lucky you have anything to eat at all, and you’re still complaining?”
“Silas, did you go bankrupt or something? You can’t even afford to feed me meat?”
The man didn’t reply, just continuing to feed her spoonful after spoonful.
She had been running a fever, and her stomach was empty; she couldn’t handle anything hard to digest right now.
“Hey, can you slow down a little?”
Silas’s movements weren’t exactly gentle, perhaps laced with a complicated mix of emotions. His deep gaze was unreadable.
After finishing more than half the bowl, Vivian puckered her lips.
“Here, wipe my mouth.”

Chapter 279
He ignored her and went to throw away the trash.
Vivian mumbled a complaint and reached over to the nightstand to grab a tissue herself. Seeing him turn back around, she said, “Look at you, losing your patience after taking care of me for five minutes. What are you going to do when you get old? I’ll be the one pushing your wheelchair and feeding you your meds.”
“You?”
Silas stood by the bed. The room’s overhead light cast a warm glow directly over him.
“I’ll be thanking God if you don’t poison me.”
“I’d never.”
Vivian’s eyes sparkled. “I’m the one who loves you the most. I’ll definitely take care of you like you were my own flesh and blood.”
What that really meant was, ‘Look how much I love you. You should love me just as much as you love yourself.’
Silas let out a scoffing laugh and casually moved the water glass on the table out of the way.
“Go to sleep now that you’re done eating. Stop bothering me.”
“You’re telling me to sleep right after I eat? I’m not a pig.”
Vivian muttered, propping herself up on her arms and slipping her feet into her shoes. The moment he turned around, she smoothly grabbed his hand. “You promised you’d help me wash up. I really feel disgusting, please help me.”
[I really feel disgusting, please help me.]
Paired with her seductively charming and flirtatious gaze, it sounded exactly like she was making a wildly inappropriate request.
Silas’s eyelid twitched. “Wash yourself!”
“I don’t have the energy…”
Vivian pouted. “I have absolutely zero strength left. I’ll probably pass out the second I walk into that bathroom, and then you’ll just have to do all the hard work anyway, won’t you?”
Silas stared at the face in front of him. Had he been too lenient with her lately, making her think she could just demand whatever she wanted?
