The Stand-In Who Burned the Script novel Chapter 38

Vivian paused. Her eyes had already adjusted to the darkness, and by the faint ambient light, she could make out the man's vague silhouette. He radiated absolute arrogance.

She tried to move, but couldn't break free.

The man's grip on her waist was ironclad.

"Sir, it seems to me that you're the one groping me in the dark. If I wanted to, I could press charges for sexual assault."

The man didn't panic in the slightest. His soft chuckle mocked her sheer audacity.

But he did realize his mistake.

This woman didn't seem like someone's hired setup.

He let go, his voice a low rumble. "You were the one who threw yourself into my arms first. But no matter, consider this a freebie."

Vivian was stunned again as she watched him walk away.

His tall frame moved with steady, commanding steps. His aura was truly unparalleled.

It only hit her moments later that his predatory gaze had sent a strange chill running down her spine.

The lights finally flickered back on. Vivian made her way to the restroom, and by the time she returned to the banquet hall, the initial panic had subsided into a peaceful hum.

"Vivian, you're back?"

Mrs. Prescott rushed over the moment she saw her, her tone bursting with concern. "The power went out while you were in the restroom. Are you alright?"

Vivian smiled and shook her head. "I'm fine. Thanks for asking."

"Oh, it's nothing."

Mrs. Prescott linked arms affectionately with her and leaned in to whisper, "Your sister and Dr. Granger are here. Did you know?"

Vivian wasn't surprised, though she hadn't expected the two to show up together.

They weren't even trying to hide it anymore?

She smiled and replied, "Yes, I knew."

A gossipy glint sparkled in Mrs. Prescott's eyes, though her face remained masked in faux concern. "I saw your sister and Dr. Granger... They were acting very intimate, you know. You need to be careful, Vivian. Don't let yourself get played."

She didn't realize that Vivian was actively steering them straight toward the subjects of their conversation.

Vivian feigned intrigue. "Are you saying my sister is sneaking around with my boyfriend?"

"Oh?"

Mrs. Prescott froze, quickly covering her mouth to whisper, "I never said that."
