"No." Hearing the old man's affectionate tone, Vivian couldn't help but smile. "I'm just a little surprised you're still up so late."
The old man chuckled heartily. "I'm just like you young people. I'm used to it."
With that, he abruptly changed the subject.
"Have you and Silas... spoken yet?"
Silas Sterling?
They had been connected on iMessage for two days, and all she had gotten out of him was a single question mark.
Thinking about the man blindly fumbling with his phone, Vivian actually wanted to laugh. "Mr. Sterling... must be pretty busy. We just briefly said hello."
The fact that he had even bothered to say hello was beyond the old man's expectations.
He let out an understanding hum. "Well, that puts my mind at ease."
"But Vivian... dealing with Silas might require a bit of patience. The boy has been having a hard time since the accident, so please bear with him."
At this point, Vivian had no idea what the old man truly meant by 'patience' and 'having a hard time.'
She casually replied, "Grandpa Sterling, since I gave you my word, I'll definitely keep it. Don't worry, I'll take good care of Silas."
Old Mr. Sterling gave an awkward laugh. "Taking care of him... won't be necessary."
Just don't let him walk all over you.
"Since you two have already started talking... why don't you get the marriage license as soon as you arrive, and we can discuss the wedding details later?"
None of this mattered to Vivian; she didn't care whether they had a wedding or not.
She politely agreed. "Okay."
They chatted for a few more minutes before hanging up.
Vivian twirled her phone in her hand, the more she thought about the conversation, the stranger it felt. She quickly shot a text to Zoe, asking her to look into Silas's relationship history.
The clock was ticking down.
The old man calling to confirm at this late hour was simply because he was afraid she would back out.
Little did he know... joining the Sterling family, no matter what it entailed, was better than the viper's nest that was the Fairchild family.
Vivian gave a soft chuckle and tossed her phone aside.
