Scarlett was forcibly dragged away, and the officers returned to their desks, leaving only Vivian and Silas alone in the vast lobby.
She sat there, tilting her head up to look at him, her gaze laced with obvious resentment.
"Why do you even care?"
She pouted, and in the next second, her beautiful eyes turned rimmed with red.
"It's not like I have anyone looking out for me anyway. I live in a hotel. I don't have a home. Even if I got locked up in a holding cell, it's just another place to sleep."
Silas stared down at her. Her face was incredibly pale, and her hair was a tangled mess. Looking at her like this only amplified her delicate, shattered beauty.
"All these days, and you're still not over it?"
"Is this a matter of time?!"
Vivian couldn't take it anymore. She glared up at the man, determined to spell out exactly where he had failed. "I ran away from home! As my husband, you should have at least tried to comfort me! But what did you do?!"
He did absolutely nothing!
And not only that—
Now he was standing here with a 'you should be over it by now' attitude!
The more Vivian thought about it, the angrier she got. She twisted her body away from him. "Leave by yourself!"
"You're not leaving?"
"I'm going back to my hotel."
"Yeah. Okay."
"..."
When Silas said 'okay,' he truly didn't plan on waiting for her. He turned on his heel, his long legs striding toward the exit.
One second.
Two seconds.
The rapid clacking of heels chased right after him.
The moment he slid into the driver's seat, the passenger door flew open. The woman furiously clicked her seatbelt into place and barked an order. "Where am I supposed to hail a cab at this hour? Drive me to my hotel!"
The man didn't reply. A faint, almost imperceptible smirk tugged at the corner of his lips before he started the engine.
Any man on earth would have melted at the sight of her.
Silas's intense gaze lingered on her face. He didn't say a word.
"Do you think just because I'm usually the one chasing you, I'll magically get over it on my own?"
"But I get depressed too, Silas. I can rationalize it, but I still need you to comfort me."
Her words were a masterful display of subtle surrender.
Paired with that pitiful, fragile expression...
For a split second, Silas felt a jolt of electricity race through his veins.
He rubbed his thumb and index finger together, ultimately reaching out to tilt her chin up. "How exactly do you want me to comfort you?"
Vivian looked straight into his eyes. Those bottomless black pools were like a dark, endless ocean, capable of swallowing everything whole.
She bit her lip lightly, her eyes shimmering.
"Kiss me, and I'll be fine."
