As she spoke, a flicker of emotion shifted in the man's dark eyes. He sat down sideways on the sofa and pulled her by the arm, making her sit squarely on his lap.
At such close proximity, Vivian stared at his flawlessly sculpted face.
"Speak."
Her voice unconsciously softened. "If you don't say it now, I'm going to take a shower."
"My mother wants you to move in with her for a while. What do you think?"
The word "mother" slipped out naturally, as if she were a shared elder between them.
On some level, it felt like an acknowledgment.
An acknowledgment of her status as Mrs. Sterling.
Whether Silas had realized this shift himself or not, it caused quite a stir in Vivian's heart.
Her lips moved slightly, unable to pinpoint exactly what she was feeling.
She wrapped her arms around his neck.
"She's your mother. If you want me to keep her company, of course I'm willing to."
Silas frowned, a barely perceptible crease forming between his brows. "For me?"
"Not entirely. Maybe... for myself?"
A fleeting glint passed through Vivian's eyes, so fast it seemed like an illusion. "Think about it. If I can build a good relationship with your mom, we'll have family harmony, and she won't constantly try to make things hard for me, right?"
In theory, she was right.
But Silas couldn't quite explain the strange feeling gnawing at him.
He stroked the arm wrapped around him, his voice low. "If you feel uncomfortable at any point, tell me immediately. Also, she has a terrible temper, you..."
"Don't you know me? I'm the most lovable person around."
The radiant, bold confidence on the woman's face blossomed like a flower, reflecting deeply in Silas's eyes.
His Adam's apple bobbed. Two seconds later, he gripped the back of her neck, pulled her forward, and brought his lips crashing down on hers.
Cynthia had returned to the country specifically for Silas's marriage. Naturally, she intended to figure out exactly what kind of woman her son had married.
Even though their first meeting had been disastrous, she needed to spend more time observing Vivian.
"I won't be coming over for the next two days. Call me if anything happens."
Vivian let out an 'oh' and leaned in close to him. "Are you worried Mom will bully me?"
"Are you the type to just sit there and take it?"
"Of course not."
Exactly.
"Silas."
Vivian called his name, her gaze locking onto his face. Her eyes were shimmering, practically overflowing with emotion.
"If Mom beats me up, will you help me get revenge?"
Her expression was entirely serious, as if they were genuinely about to throw punches.
Silas's dark eyes watched her silently, not blinking for several seconds. Then he reached out and pinched her cheeks together, squishing her beautiful face into a little ball. "What on earth goes on in that head of yours all day? If she tries to hit you, wouldn't you just run?"
"Use your words, don't use your hands."
