Vivian was lounging on a recliner by the floor-to-ceiling windows, a plate of freshly sliced fruit resting beside her. The warm, unobstructed sunlight spilled over her, making her look as if she were practically glowing.
"What do you mean, 'in the current version of the rumor'? He already loves me deeply."
She popped a piece of kiwi into her mouth, her words slightly muffled. "Just let them run with that version. Tell them he's so obsessed with me he'd pluck the moon from the sky if I asked."
Before Simon could reply, a frigid voice cut through the air from behind her. "Where do you get all this audacity? Do you honestly think you're some irresistible seductress?"
"..."
Vivian's heart skipped a beat.
She turned around.
Just as expected, Cynthia Sterling was standing there. Dressed in a striking red gown and a chic black fascinator, she exuded an aura of aristocratic elegance that instantly demanded submission.
Vivian swallowed the kiwi and uncrossed her legs.
"Cynthia, why didn't you let me know you were coming?"
"If I announced my arrival, how would I have been treated to Miss Fairchild's brilliant little monologue?" Cynthia threw her a half-smile that didn't reach her eyes, bypassing the recliner to sit in the chair next to it.
Vivian quickly composed herself, sitting up straight with perfect posture.
Her voice was clear and unbothered. "I was just joking around. If you can't stomach a little banter, Cynthia, you might want to avoid hanging out with younger crowds."
"You...!"
Cynthia was nearly pushed to the brink of losing her temper again.
She knew it—she was entirely incompatible with this woman. Peaceful coexistence was simply impossible.
Watching Cynthia's rigid, unyielding expression, Vivian picked up the fruit plate and offered it to her, muttering softly, "Alright, alright, I know you hate hearing it, so I'll drop it... Here, have some fruit. Mrs. Gable just cut it, it's very fresh."
Cynthia shot her a glare and looked away.
She clearly had no intention of eating.
Vivian had debated offering her a piece directly, but given the hostile atmosphere... it was probably too risky. She decided against it.
She set the fruit plate aside and sat back down.
