The Stand-In Who Burned the Script novel Chapter 509

With a flicker of static, the video ended.

One second passed, then two.

After a long time, Vivian could still clearly hear the rapid thumping of her own heart.

Mom...

There really was a hidden truth behind that kidnapping.

Who was it?

Who could it be!

She suddenly grabbed her own hair, plunging deep into the suffocating darkness of her mind.

—

Twenty minutes later, the executive secretary came in to drop off some files. Vivian had regained her composure. She signed the documents, handed them back, and casually added, "Make me a cup of coffee, please."

"Right away."

The secretary left.

Vivian's rigidly braced body finally went slack, though her face remained deathly pale.

She pulled out her phone, her deep gaze fixated on the screen for a long while before she finally dialed the number.

The person on the other end seemed to be expecting it. He answered instantly.

"Vivian."

Vivian had no patience for pleasantries and asked directly, "Where did you find all this?"

"I have my channels—"

"Tell me!"

The harsh, low shout made Jonah freeze for a second.

The next second, he actually chuckled.

"As expected. The only time you show any real emotion toward me is when it involves your mother."

Vivian stood up and paced back and forth by the window, feeling an unprecedented level of agitation. Her eyes were red, tiny capillaries webbing across the whites of her eyes.

"Jonah, if you try to use this to play games with me, I will destroy you."

Her voice was flat, but freezing, bone-chillingly cold.

Jonah went silent for a moment, then let out a soft sigh.

"Vivian... at this point, how could I possibly play games with you over this?"

"If you must know, there's no harm in telling you. I had someone buy this information off the dark web. I don't know who the seller is. I already asked; this is everything that person knew."

Digging any deeper was practically impossible.
