Silas Sterling had an early morning meeting today. Just as he stepped out, Simon Young returned to report back.
He repeated Vivian's exact words, rubbing his nose slightly. "Mr. Sterling, I think Miss Fairchild was really happy."
Honestly, she hadn't looked overly thrilled, and Simon couldn't quite figure out why.
The man shot him a sidelong glance. "She didn't say anything else?"
"...No."
"Get out."
Right.
Simon turned and walked out, nearly colliding with Grace Gifford the second he reached the door.
He instinctively threw a glance back inside the office, then deliberately raised his voice, adopting a strictly professional tone. "Miss Gifford, is there something you need?"
Grace's complexion didn't look great. Seeing how guarded he was acting, her expression darkened even further. "I'm looking for Silas."
"Mr. Sterling is currently busy, you should..."
Before he could finish, a deep voice rang out from inside. "Let her in."
"...Right this way, Miss Gifford."
Grace walked past him, her eyes fixed entirely on the man sitting behind the massive desk. Even with his back turned, even with the leather chair obscuring most of his frame, the sheer commanding aura radiating from him was intoxicating.
She pressed her lips together and hesitated for a long time before speaking.
"Silas."
Silas turned his chair around, his indifferent gaze landing on her face. "What is it?"
What is it... The underlying message was painfully clear: unless it was strictly business, she had no right to seek him out anymore.
Grace dug her manicured nails into her palms and forced out, "I... I came to talk to you about work."
For the past few years, she had been the brand ambassador for Sterling Enterprises' flagship labels. Not long ago, the topic of terminating her contract had been brought up, but her agency hadn't finalized the details yet.
Her management knew about the history between Silas and Grace, so naturally, they wanted to exploit the connection and drain every last drop of resources before letting the contract dissolve.
But all of her scheduled work for the company had already been suspended.
