There was a strange, undeniable magic in his voice that made Vivian's heart skip a beat.
After hanging up, she rolled down the window.
The freezing winter wind whipped into the car, snapping her entirely back to reality.
She let out a soft breath, spotted a parking sign not far away, and pulled the Ferrari into the lot.
This part of the city was undergoing redevelopment. It was deserted, and the jagged silhouettes of the uneven buildings cast sharp shadows under the night sky, giving the area an eerie, desolate vibe.
Vivian sat in the driver's seat, staring blankly ahead. She didn't know when Silas would arrive, and she hadn't given him any specific landmarks. The vast emptiness and dead silence of the area seemed to trap her tangled thoughts inside her own head.
About fifteen minutes passed.
The sharp honk of a horn snapped her out of her daze.
For some inexplicable reason, her heart gave a sudden leap.
She pushed the door open and stepped out. The glaring headlights from the approaching car blinded her for a moment, and she instinctively threw up a hand to shield her eyes.
Once her vision adjusted, she saw a tall, imposing figure standing beside his car. The bright beams carved out the sharp lines of his broad shoulders. He stood against the light, his face shrouded in shadow, but Vivian just *knew* he was smiling.
Smiling because this ridiculous setup had actually managed to catch her off guard.
And smiling... because he was looking at her.
For two brief seconds, Vivian forgot how to breathe.
Silas lowered his gaze, masking the intense heat in his eyes. When he looked back up, the halo of the streetlights caught the edges of his hair, giving him an almost ethereal glow. He opened his arms. "Vivian, come here."
Her eyelashes fluttered, and the next second, she practically sprinted toward him.
She crashed straight into his embrace.
Silas caught her effortlessly. The biting wind whipped at the edges of his heavy wool coat, and he immediately grabbed the lapels, wrapping them tightly around her, completely cocooning her against his chest.
"Why are you freezing? Don't you know how to roll up a window?"
His deep, warm voice washed over her from above, laced with a hint of reprimand.
Vivian rubbed her cheek against his chest. "I didn't feel like it."
"It's a wonder you haven't frozen to death out of pure laziness."
"..." *Always lecturing me.*
But considering how sweet he was being tonight, she decided to let it slide.
