Jonah Granger stared at the photo on his screen, his fingers curling tighter and tighter until he was practically crushing the phone.
The woman in the picture was undeniably breathtaking. Her skin was luminous, her features absolutely radiant.
And her eyes were entirely locked onto the man beside her, pressed up against him, practically glowing with affection.
Vivian...
What was so great about Silas Sterling?
What did he have that Jonah didn't?!
He possessed everything that man had, and he could give her so much more!
A dark, suffocating rage clawed at Jonah's chest, spiraling into a violent tornado that threatened to shred the last of his sanity.
Back at the seafood restaurant, the waitress had just dropped off an absolute mountain of food. The spread was golden, fragrant, and mouth-watering.
Vivian picked up her silverware, but left her fork hovering in the air as she stared pitifully at the man sitting next to her.
"You're going to shell these for me, right?"
Silas frowned, looking over at her.
"Are your hands broken?"
"No."
Vivian wiggled her fingers, forcing a tragic pout. "But I'm physically incapable of cracking crab legs and shelling shrimp. Look at them... entirely useless."
"..."
A faint, amused smirk tugged at the corner of Silas's mouth, vanishing as quickly as it appeared.
He calmly pulled on a pair of plastic gloves, grabbed the seafood shears, and systematically began dismantling a massive crab.
Vivian grinned in triumph and started eating the other side dishes.
"I went to see Dominic Fairchild today."
Silas raised an eyebrow, waiting for the punchline.
She brought it up casually, but her voice was laced with deep disgust. "He has zero self-awareness. He actually tried to play the 'we're family' card just to squeeze money out of me. Hmph. I'm not an idiot. He's not getting a single dime."
The man said nothing, simply dropping a massive chunk of fresh crab meat onto her plate.
He casually remarked, "You have a terrible relationship with him."
"Terrible is an understatement."
Vivian bit the edge of her fork and laughed dryly. "I guess I really am just the byproduct of a loveless marriage. He never treated me like a daughter. The second my mother died, any connection I had to that family died with her."
Her eyes sparkled under the lights, making it seem like she was completely unbothered by the trauma.
