By the time they returned to the room, Julian had just finished a phone call.
He turned his head, the calculating gleam in his eyes practically spilling over as he picked up Vivian's wine glass and shoved it into her hand.
"Miss Fairchild, even though it's our first time meeting, I feel like we should've met years ago. We're practically friends now. We aren't leaving until we're drunk!"
Vivian glanced down at the glass in her hand and offered a tight smile.
"Your enthusiasm is making me a little unaccustomed, Mr. Caldwell."
"What are you talking about?"
A predatory light flashed in Julian's eyes. He lifted a hand to cup the bottom of Vivian's glass, almost forcing her to drink. "I just want to be your friend. What, you won't even give me that much face?"
It seemed there was no getting out of drinking this wine tonight.
Coldness seeped into the depths of Vivian's eyes.
"Drink? Why wouldn't I?"
"Vivian...!" Zoe said urgently.
Vivian subtly shook her head at her assistant, raised the glass, and downed it in one gulp.
A triumphant smile spread across Julian's face, and he stopped urging her to drink.
After all, she had already swallowed what she needed to. Now, he just had to wait for the drug to kick in.
Zoe absolutely despised the look on the man's face and took the initiative to grab the bottle and pour him a glass.
When it came to business dinners, she knew the game better than anyone.
Back and forth they went, drinking more and more.
Vivian felt a strange, burning heat rising within her. She covertly tugged on Zoe's hand and stood up to head outside.
Seeing this, Julian immediately got up to follow.
"Mr. Caldwell!"
Zoe blocked him with a fake, plastered smile. "The wine isn't finished yet. Where are you going?"
"Can't you see your boss has had too much to drink? I'm going to check on her."
Julian had been poured quite a few drinks himself, but he had a high tolerance. He might be a little buzzed, but it wasn't enough to ruin his plans. He shoved the woman out of his way, though he kept a thin veneer of politeness in his tone.
