Chapter 83
Shortly after Vivian got home, she received a call from Old Mr. Sterling. His words were full
of concern, eager to know how her first meeting with Silas went.
She told him the truth. “Grandpa Sterling, Silas doesn’t want to marry me.”
The old man choked for a second, not expecting her to be so blunt.
Who knew his grandson’s stubborn nature better than he did? Of course he knew!
“He… it’s not just you he doesn’t want to marry! He doesn’t want any woman!”
The old man’s tone was filled with exasperation, though it was hard to tell if he was mad at himself or his grandson. He stammered, “Vivian, you can’t get discouraged just because of this. Think about it-with my backing, aren’t you the most competitive candidate out there?
Vivian remained silent.
She seriously considered it for a moment before saying, “Yeah, that makes sense.”
“But Grandpa Sterling, Silas said something today that made me think. He asked me what I wanted to get from him, and I couldn’t give him an answer.”
“What’s so hard to answer about that?”
The old man was quick to supply her with reasons.
“He’s handsome, and he’s blind. Even if you kept a couple of boytoys on the side, he’d hardly notice… Oh, right, and he never eats properly or sleeps on time. He won’t live long. All you have to do is have a child, and the entire fortune will belong to you two.”
Vivian was speechless.
Was… was he really Silas’s biological grandfather?
Vivian wasn’t sure if she should laugh. “So you mean I need to find a way to win him over?”
“Of course.” The old man chuckled heartily. “But even if you don’t, it doesn’t matter, because I won’t allow the engagement to be broken. He’s getting married whether he likes it or not.”
When people reached a certain age, they didn’t care about much else.
Their only wish was to see their descendants settle down and start families.
After hanging up, Vivian stared at the ceiling, lost in thought.
She still couldn’t understand it. With Silas’s looks and status, even if he was blind, there had to be an endless line of women throwing themselves at him.
Was the old man really so insistent just because of the promise he made to her grandfather?

Chapter 83
She couldn’t figure it out, so she decided to drop it.
Regardless, it wasn’t a bad deal for her.
Setting everything else aside, Silas’s character and standing were already leagues above Jonah’s.
You could hardly find a handful of men like him in the entire country, let alone just in Northside.
Not to mention…
A sharp, brilliant gleam flashed through Vivian’s eyes.
For the next two days, Vivian heard nothing from Silas. Even Jonah seemed to have vanished after his brief appearance.
But she didn’t let her guard down.
She had a feeling this was just the calm before the storm.
Sure enough.
On the third morning, the atmosphere in the office felt off the moment she walked in. Everyone greeted her as usual, but their eyes were filled with gossipy speculation.
She walked into her office.
The moment she pushed the door open, there was barely any room to step.
The floor was entirely carpeted with a dense sea of white roses.
Vivian took a deep breath and called out, “Zoe.”
Zoe rushed in and froze at the sight. “This…” She turned to the open workspace. “Who let these in?”
The young receptionist timidly walked over.
