The Stand-In Who Burned the Script novel Chapter 88

Chapter 88

“Vivian, I remember you used to be so well-behaved.”

The past… how should she put it?

Vivian used to be a free spirit, but whenever Jonah showed even the slightest hint of displeasure, she would give up things she loved, avoid places she wanted to go, and even force herself to stay locked up at home just to please him.

She didn’t speak, her downcast gaze fixing on the space between their shoes.

They were incredibly close.

It was a proximity she had once desperately craved.

Jonah abruptly reached out, lifting her chin with a gaze as dark and cold as an icy lake. “When are you planning to come home?”

“You mean Southampton?”

Vivian met his eyes without flinching. “I’m not going back.”

“I told you, if you want to stay in Northside, I can accommodate that. I’ve already set up our new place. When are you moving in?”

There was no question in Jonah’s tone.

It was a demand.

Like an emperor handing down an edict.

Vivian slapped his hand away. “Jonah, I’ll say it again. We are over.”

“And I’ll say it again. I don’t agree.”

Vivian stared at him.

Looking into his eyes, she realized for the first time just how impossible it was to reason with

him.

She looked away and said softly, “If Dr. Granger refuses to accept it, then so be it. I’ve said my piece. We’re on different paths now, so let’s stop trying to force things.”

Jonah gripped her shoulders with both hands, a hint of red gleaming behind his glasses. “If the paths are different, I’ll carve out a new one.”

“Vivian, I admit I didn’t understand my own heart before, but now I know for sure. You’re the

only woman I want.”

Vivian gave a humorless smile. “Then what about Amara?”

“What does Amara have to do with this?”

“She…”

Mentioning Amara made Jonah hesitate for a split second, before his voice dropped even deeper. “She’s different to me, but I promise you, she’s no threat to you.”

“What does ‘different’ mean?”

Different enough to rip out her heart valve to give to her?

Vivian sneered. “If you can’t stay calm seeing me with another man, then you have no right to say ‘she won’t affect me.’ Her very existence is an interference.”

Jonah gritted his teeth. “You mean I have to cut her off completely for the rest of my life?”

“Yes.”

Vivian knew perfectly well.

Jonah had done so much for Amara. It wasn’t as simple as her just being ‘different. That woman was already the most important thing in the world to him.
