The Stand-In Who Burned the Script novel Chapter 97

Chapter 97

Martha Gable lowered her head in frustration, realizing she had misspoken.

But since the words were already out, there was no point stopping halfway. She could only brace herself and say, “Miss Gifford occasionally fights with her family and comes here to stay for a couple of days… But don’t worry, Miss! She and Sir stay in separate rooms. There’s a room specifically for her.”

“Oh, I see.”

Staying occasionally, and having her own room.

Coming here when fighting with her family…

It seemed Grace Gifford truly lived up to her name as a precious gem.

“It wouldn’t matter even if they stayed in the same room; the past is the past. Mrs. Gable, let’s make a light soup later.” Vivian smiled and continued snapping the bean sprouts in her hand.

Martha silently sighed in relief, marveling once again-

Miss Fairchild had such a great personality and was so beautiful; she was a perfect match

for Sir.

At 7 PM, the sound of a car horn echoed from the yard.

Vivian glanced outside. Silas had probably gone to inspect a project today; he was driving a white Land Cruiser with yellow mud on the tires.

As the man got out and walked in, she looked away.

At the entryway.

Silas ran his long fingers along the shoe cabinet. It seemed unhurried, but it was because he couldn’t see and had to rely on memory and feeling for all his movements.

Vivian walked over in two quick steps, taking out his slippers and placing them on the floor.

The man paused, his deep, vacant gaze shooting straight at her.

Vivian shrugged and smiled. “I am your wife. This is what I should do. You can just ask me next time.”

Perhaps out of disgust for the word ‘wife, Silas instinctively frowned and changed his shoes.

As he stepped forward, the woman beside him followed closely, her crisp, affectionate voice chattering incessantly like a summer lark.

“Mrs. Gable and I have already made dinner. She said you love BBQ ribs the most, so I tried making them. You should taste them later.”

“Do you want to take a shower first? Or maybe eat before showering, just wash your hands for now.”

“Silas…”

The man suddenly stopped, and Vivian halted as well.

She held her hands behind her back, leaning forward slightly, her liveliness perfectly charming. “What’s wrong?”

“Can you be quiet for just one moment, Miss Fairchild?”

“Ah, sure.”

She mimed zipping her lips, staring at him with wide, puppy-dog eyes.

Silas’s jaw tightened. He went to wash his hands, and the footsteps quickly followed him.

The moment he reached out, soap was pumped into his hands.

Was this woman out of her mind?

Emerging from the bathroom, they went to the dining room.

Mrs. Gable had just laid out all the dishes. Seeing the two of them walk in together, her eyes lit up. She knew it; these two were a match made in heaven.

“Sir.”

She stood respectfully to the side, her voice filled with a smile. “Miss Fairchild made several of these dishes specifically for you today. You must try them.”

Vivian discreetly gave her a thumbs-up.

Good job, Mrs. Gable.

The man remained expressionless, his handsome face looking impossibly perfect under the light. He opened his mouth, “Mrs. Gable, you can go home now.”
