Two fluffy figures sat close together in front of the stone stove. Laurel held Sebastian’s front paw and guided him as she stirred. “Like this. Slow circles.”

Sebastian kept his breathing extremely light. Frosty mist formed with each careful breath and drifted into the wooden bowl, blooming into delicate ice crystals within the fruit mixture.

Tiny ice flecks clung to the tips of the little female’s hair, sparkling as she happily moved about, like stardust scattered through the air.

After adding grapes and honey, Laurel suddenly turned around and held the first spoonful of shaved ice up to Sebastian’s mouth.

While he was still frozen in surprise, she rose on her toes and kissed his damp nose. “It’s super good, right?”

The warmth in his eyes melted. “Not sweeter than you.”

She laughed, her eyes curving like crescents, her fingertips still dusted with icy crumbs from his whiskers.

Sebastian lowered his head and gently brushed his forehead against her cheek. In the bowl, the unmelted ice reflected their close silhouettes, the sweetness almost visible.

Once the fruit shaved ice was finished, Laurel cupped Sebastian’s face and gave him a few happy kisses. “I never thought my big puppy could be this useful.”

With that, she took his hand and carried the wooden bowl with him to share it with Alice.

Both families tasted shaved ice for the first time. Once again, they marveled at the little female’s creativity and praised her nonstop.

Over the next few days, Alice’s family practically ate all their meals at Laurel’s place.

Laurel loved the feeling. It was lively and fun, and Alice’s mates were all capable and considerate. They handled most of the cooking while Laurel stood to the side giving guidance.

Having friends again felt unfamiliar yet comforting. Laurel treasured this happiness more than anything.

She and Alice quickly became best friends. The two little females stuck together every day, chatting endlessly and enjoying life to the fullest.

“Alice, what are you saying?” Laurel’s face flushed red.

Sebastian walked in with a dark expression and said irritably, “Why are you at my place every day? Don’t you have anything better to do?”

Caught badmouthing him behind his back, Alice immediately went quiet.

Sebastian snorted and did not bother arguing. He walked straight over and sat beside the little female. His tall body leaned slightly toward her as his fingers curled around her wrist, subtly separating her from Alice in a silent display of possession.

“Laurel, the weaker beastmen in the tribe want to learn how to weave backpack baskets. They asked me to speak with you,” he said in a low voice, clearly reluctant but serious.

“They lack strength and endurance, and life is hard for them. Would you be willing to teach them?”
