“If she was wandering on her own, then why did she come back with Sebastian? Did she ever explain her background?” Wilona pressed.

When Alice could not answer, Wilona stepped forward and shoved her aside. She locked eyes with Laurel. “Stop pretending to be pitiful. If you’ve got the nerve, explain it clearly. Where did you steal all this knowledge from? Why are you teaching everyone for free? What exactly are you planning for the tribe and for Sebastian?”

The air around them froze.

Wilona’s sharp questioning continued. She stared hard at Laurel, her tone aggressive. “Your whole family died? Then what race are you really? Don’t tell me you’re some kind of ruthless, cold-blooded beastman. You’d better explain yourself today.”

“That’s enough.”

A low snarl cut through the cave like cracking ice. Sebastian moved forward in an instant. His wolf pupils narrowed into dangerous slits, and an icy pressure spread from him, sharp enough to sting the skin.

His voice was not loud, but it carried undeniable force, each word striking the stone walls. “She is my future matriarch. I stand for her.”

The final note of his voice trembled slightly, as if the air itself shook under his presence.

His

gaze turned on Wilona, cold and cutting. “Anyone who wants to learn is welcome to stay. Anyone who wants to bully her…”

His fangs showed faintly. “Don’t blame me for what happens next.”

The temperature inside the cave dropped instantly.

Sebastian’s last words made Wilona’s pupils shrink. She instinctively stepped back two paces.

“Being a valuable female won’t save you. We’ll see whether your mates can protect you,” his tone implied.

For the first time, Wilona clearly felt the threat of death.

The killing intent in Sebastian’s eyes was naked and real, the kind forged in true bloodshed.

She knew exactly how terrifying he was.

Years ago, during that brutal battle, he had killed countless roaming beastmen alone. That fight had made his name, and the memory of it still haunted many wanderers across the forest.

Her mates? In front of him, they would not even be enough to fill the gaps between his teeth.

Wilona’s throat tightened. All her arrogance shattered in that instant.

She bit down hard on her lip and did not dare say another word.

At the same time, the other beastmen snapped out of it when they saw Laurel being wronged. One after another, they began speaking up.

“Wilona, stop it. You’re both valuable females. Don’t make things ugly.”

“You’re being too harsh. She’s gentle and kind. She wouldn’t bring trouble to the tribe.”

“Yeah. She taught us so much today. We should be thanking her, not doubting her.”

“Mr. Whitehead already vouched for her. Just let it go.”

“Honestly, you’re clearly targeting her. I suggest you quit while you’re ahead before you anger Mr. Whitehead.”

“Wilona, you already have dozens of mates. Stop trying to compete for Mr. Whitehead. If you want someone, take me instead. I’m single.”

Laughter erupted through the cave, completely ignoring Wilona’s face, which had gone darker than a burned pot.

Wilona glared fiercely at Laurel, spat out, “Just wait,” then turned and stormed out.

As she walked away, the more she thought about it, the angrier she became. She had meant to put that wild female in her place, yet somehow she had ended up humiliating herself.

“Standing in the sun all day, getting laughed at by everyone. That cursed Laurel. She’s trouble. I’ll deal with you sooner or later,” she fumed.

On the other side, Laurel slowly pulled herself out of the crushing headache and the surge of memories. Her awareness returned bit by bit, faint teeth marks still visible on her lower lip.

She stayed quiet for a moment, not out of fear, but because she was steadying herself after the emotional shock.

This was the first time she had faced the raw, unfiltered hostility of the beast world. It was
