Laurel’s sleepy, half-awake look made Sebastian’s heart burn softly. It also made his irritation toward the beastmen outside spike again. He seriously wanted to go out and kick them all
away.
He lowered his head and gently rubbed his nose against the top of her hair, then lightly licked the crease between her brows with his warm tongue. “They’re here to learn weaving. Go back to sleep for a bit. I’ll chase them off.”
“Weaving…” Laurel murmured groggily. Then she jolted upright from the pile of fur. “Wait. Today’s the lesson!”
She scrambled to get up in a panic, only to have Sebastian’s tail gently coil around her ankle.
Sebastian had already fetched a warm hide skirt. Seeing her cheeks flushed with urgency, he could not help nudging her earlobe lightly with his nose. “Don’t rush. They came too early.”
He reheated last night’s meat stew and corn for breakfast and pulled the little female over to
eat.
When Laurel hurried out of the cave, the beastmen waiting outside saw Sebastian following close behind, carefully gathering her hair for her. They immediately laughed.
Laurel’s ears burned red. “Sorry to keep everyone waiting. Um… let’s start the lesson.”
“Haha, it’s our fault for coming too early. Take your time,” everyone replied cheerfully.
Sebastian settled everyone in a circle inside the cave and brought out large bundles of bamboo strips.
Laurel began teaching.
She picked up several strips and crossed them to form the base, then bent the strips upward to shape the frame of the basket.
Next, she took a single strip and wove it in and out through the frame.
Finally, she secured the edges and attached hide straps.
As her hands moved skillfully, she explained the techniques gently. The others followed her example and began weaving.
Before long, several antelope-horn and deer youths had finished sturdy, good-looking baskets.

Seeing this, Laurel could not help praising them. “That’s amazing. I can teach you other things too. Do you want to learn?”
The boys’ eyes lit up instantly, and they nodded eagerly. “Yes! Thank you for teaching us!”
Laurel’s grandfather had been a craftsman. When she was young, she had learned several simple weaving techniques from him.
Those warm childhood memories surfaced in her mind, and she smiled without realizing it. The males watching her were momentarily entranced.
After deciding on the next techniques, Laurel began teaching them how to make other items.
Everyone learned seriously. By the end of the day, they had produced a batch of lightweight bamboo baskets, containers, ladles, buckets, and mats.
Weaker beastmen seemed naturally skilled at making tools.
They learned quickly, worked deftly, and produced items that were especially refined and sturdy.
“This plant is called bamboo. It grows in the southern forest,” Laurel said as she wrapped up the lesson.
“Once you understand the basics, you can use your imagination. With how smart you all are, I’m sure you’ll create even more useful tools.”
Encouraged by the little female, the group burst into applause and cheers.
“Thank you so much! We’re cutting bamboo tomorrow!”
“I learned so much today. I’m worried I won’t even remember it all, let alone invent new tools. Haha.”
“I’m honestly ashamed,” one male said, his face red. “I was worried this would be a wasted trip. I never expected to gain so much.”
Before coming, they had all carried some doubts.
On one hand, the basket looked complicated, and they were afraid they would not be able to learn it.
On the other hand, they did not fully believe the little female would share such valuable knowledge so freely.

But she hadn’t only taught them how to make baskets, she had generously shared many other techniques as well.
She was like a revered teacher from the great beast cities, scattering seeds of wisdom among them.
Someone so selfless and wise deserved to have her name recorded in history.
If one could measure it, everyone’s affection toward Laurel would have been rising rapidly.
