Chapter 114 Well Deserved
Lucas snapped, “Darcy, don’t tell me you’re letting that country girl mess with your head. There are no such things as ghosts!”
Darcy did not know how to explain, and it did not help that Neil kept interrupting, trying to make Venus look bad. The more Darcy said, the more Lucas seemed doubtful.
Venus remained calm. “Water ghosts fear fire. If you can’t handle it later, surround Sophia with fire. It’ll at least drive the ghost away for a while.”
She did not wait for a reply and simply turned to leave.
“Ms. Oracle!” Darcy hurried after her. “Please don’t mind what Mr. Jynn said. He just doesn’t believe in this stuff.
Venus replied lightly, “He’ll believe it by tonight.”
Darcy, still puzzled, asked, “How did you know the water ghost would attack at midnight?”
“Sophia’s breath is weak, and there’s a faint layer of water vapor around her body. If you measure the humidity in her room, you’ll find it’s higher than in any other ward.
“Water ghosts only appear at night, and midnight is when their energy is strongest, so it’s the perfect time to take a replacement soul.”
Just then, Neil rushed out and blocked her path.
His eyes were full of accusation. “Did you know that Vienna’s younger brother had an accident?”
Venus looked unbothered. “Oh?”
“You don’t look surprised, so you did know!” Neil snapped. “Vienna was attacked by her crazy brother and got her face scratched up. She’s still in the hospital recovering!”
Venus’s voice stayed calm. “And?”
Neil’s anger flared. “If you hadn’t interfered, Ava would’ve signed the settlement papers long ago! Then, Oliver wouldn’t have been sent to a mental hospital and lost his mind, and Vienna wouldn’t have been disfigured! This is all your fault!
“You caused everyone to suffer! You ruined her life!
“Do you even understand what it means for a woman to lose her beauty? You’re cruel!”
Venus almost laughed. “Neil, I told you that you really need to get that head of yours checked. You’re acting crazier than your patients.”
“You!” Neil snapped. “I’ve always known how evil you are. You act all quiet and harmless at home, but deep down you’re vicious and manipulative!”
Venus smirked. “Do you even hear yourself?
“The real criminal isn’t me, it’s Oliver, the guy who ran red light and killed someone. I was just a witness!”
Neil’s face tightened. “Oliver did wrong, sure, but what does that have to do with Vienna?

“You meddled where you shouldn’t have! If you hadn’t told Ava anything, she would’ve signed the settlement!
“That way, Vienna wouldn’t have had to send her brother to a mental hospital, and she wouldn’t have been disfigured! Tell me that’s not your fault!”
When he pictured Vienna’s once-beautiful face covered in scars, even missing part of her ear, he looked
heartbroken.
Venus looked at him with even more disdain.
“Neil, I think you chose the wrong profession. You shouldn’t be a doctor; you should be a lapdog. Always circling around your precious Vienna. But let me give you some advice.
“Lapdogs, no matter how loyal, end up with nothing.”
Neil sneered. “You’re only saying that because I hit a neve.”
Venus scoffed. “Ava was the victim, so she had every right to refuse a settlement. No one had the right to force her. She lost her daughter, not you. You can’t possibly understand that kind of pain.
“Funny how you preach forgiveness, but tell me, what if Oliver had killed Lumi, Neil? What if it were your family?”
Neil’s face darkened. “Don’t bring Lumi into this! This has nothing to do with her!”
Venus chuckled. “See? You lose it just from me mentioning her. Relax, your dear sister is perfectly fine. But Ava’s daughter isn’t coming back.
“She doesn’t owe anyone forgiveness, and she doesn’t have to give it.
“As for Oliver, he faked insanity to dodge punishment. Now that he’s truly lost his mind, I’d call that karma.
“And your precious Vienna? She tried to protect a murderer and got hurt in return, so that’s what we call well deserved.”
