The Tower Reversed: Back to 18 (Venus) novel Chapter 21

**One Step Changes Everything**
**By Ruby Parker**

Four imposing figures, clad in dark suits and exuding an air of authority, suddenly surrounded Venus. Their piercing gazes raked over her, scrutinizing every detail of her appearance. The moment they confirmed that she matched the description of Archer Weston, their demeanor shifted. They bowed slightly, a gesture of respect that surprised her. “Our boss would like to invite you to express his gratitude for saving his life,” one of them stated, his voice steady and formal.

Venus’s heart raced as she blinked in astonishment.

So it was that elderly gentleman she had rescued by the lake earlier in the day.

She recalled the harrowing moment—the way his skin had appeared ghostly pale, his lips nearly tinged with a disturbing shade of purple. At the time, her focus had been solely on the urgency of the rescue, leaving little room for her to truly observe his features. Now, reflecting on the encounter, it struck her that he indeed had the air of a distinguished old man of means.

The bodyguards escorted her toward the entrance of an opulent VIP hospital suite. With a courteous gesture, they indicated for her to step inside, taking their positions in two neat rows flanking the door.

Taking a deep breath, Venus pushed the door open.

Inside, she was met not only by the old man but also by a strikingly handsome young man dressed in an impeccably tailored suit.

As he turned to face her, recognition washed over her—Darcy Weston.

He was a name synonymous with power and influence in the business world, a titan who stood shoulder to shoulder with the likes of Drake. His reputation was legendary, not just for his corporate acumen but also for his extensive philanthropic efforts. Darcy had poured millions into charitable causes, saving countless lives in the process.

A memory flickered in her mind of something he once said during an interview: he had dedicated his life to charity in honor of his grandfather.

When Darcy was just twenty-five, he had lost his grandfather to illness. The old man had been a beacon of philanthropy, and his legacy had profoundly shaped Darcy’s values and pursuits.

The knowledge that Darcy was a man of integrity softened Venus’s previously cold expression.

“Thank you for saving my grandfather,” Darcy said, his voice warm and genuine. His refined features were a canvas of sincere gratitude. “The doctor informed me that if you hadn’t arrived just in time, we might have lost him.”

As he spoke, he extended a signed and stamped blank check towards her, the gesture both generous and unexpected.

“I can’t possibly repay you for what you’ve done, but please accept this as a small token of my appreciation.”

Venus felt a smile tug at her lips, and she shook her head softly. “Mr. Archer has spent his life helping others. His kindness has touched so many lives, including mine. This time, fate simply returned that kindness to him. Mr. Darcy, you owe me nothing. Use this money to aid someone else in need.”

Darcy was momentarily taken aback.

Not only was he surprised that she recognized who he and his grandfather were, but he was also astonished by her refusal of an amount that could transform her entire existence.

The girl before him appeared youthful and modestly dressed, yet her calm demeanor radiated a strength that intrigued him. Darcy couldn’t help but reassess her in a new light.
