**Chapter 33: A Ghost Scared of a Haunted House**
“This divorce is witnessed by the universe itself. Henceforth, Florian Sharp and June Neal are officially separated—in life and in death.”
With a solemn air, Venus pressed her fingers together, gripping a delicate piece of parchment. As it made contact with the divorce papers, flames erupted, consuming the document in an instant.
She tossed the remnants of their marriage contract into the fire, watching as it turned to ash, a symbolic end to what once was.
“It is finished. Your marriage has been irrevocably dissolved. When you reach the underworld, your file will simply state ‘single.'”
June’s eyes widened in disbelief. “So, the underworld is real?” she asked, her voice tinged with a mixture of curiosity and fear.
Venus chuckled lightly, the sound almost melodic. “Of course it is. When people pass away, their souls journey to the underworld.”
Florian, however, wore a frown that darkened his handsome features. His expression was one of turmoil, a storm of emotions brewing beneath the surface.
“Mr. Sharp, is there something weighing on your mind?” Venus inquired, her tone shifting to one of concern.
Florian let out a weary sigh, his shoulders slumping. “I can’t remember what happened before I died,” he confessed, his voice heavy with frustration.
“Oh, I see,” Venus replied, her eyes softening. “Take your time to remember. Ms. Neal, shall we?” She turned on her heel, ready to leave without a second thought.
But Florian was not ready to let her go. “Wenus, you were the woman I married, remember? How can you just abandon me like this?”
Venus halted, turning to glare at him, her teeth clenched in irritation. “For the final time, I am not your wife. You are free now. Go ahead and investigate if you wish. No living soul can see you anyway.”
Florian shook his head, confusion etched across his striking features. “I’m already dead. Even if I uncover the truth, what difference does it make? I was never significant in that family. No one would care if my death was shrouded in mystery.”
As she watched him, lost and despondent, Venus felt a pang of empathy. She saw a reflection of her own past self in his despair.
Back at the Burn Mansion, she had been just like Florian—overlooked and utterly alone.
“I can assist you in your investigation…” Venus began, her voice filled with a hint of hope.
Before she could finish her sentence, Florian’s demeanor shifted dramatically. His eyes sparkled with excitement as he rushed toward her. “Really?!”
“Yes, but it will come at a cost,” Venus replied, her tone turning serious. “Do you have any money?”
“Of course I do!” Florian exclaimed, nodding vigorously.
He led her upstairs to the main bedroom, his footsteps echoing in the silence.
Inside the spacious walk-in closet, a safe sat ominously in the corner.
“The code is 95841,” Florian stated, his voice steady. “Inside, you’ll find cash, bank cards, gold bars, and jewels. However, you should know that you won’t be able to use the bank cards—since I’m deceased, any activity would lead the Sharps right back to you.”
“Take as much cash and gold as you desire. Oh, and that diamond necklace? It’s a wedding gift for you.”
