**One Step Changes Everything**
By Ruby Parker
“Please, don’t leave! You need to explain yourself!” Neil shouted, desperation clawing at his throat as he lunged for the elevator. But just as he reached it, a sharp kick to his chest sent him sprawling backward onto the cold, hard floor.
It was Venus who had kicked him.
“Argh! Venus!” Neil could feel his frustration boiling over like a pot left too long on the stove. Scrambling to his feet, he was met with the sight of the elevator doors sliding shut, sealing away the very person he needed to confront.
The last image etched in his mind was her infuriatingly smug expression as the doors closed, leaving him seething with anger.
How could she do that? That insufferable brat had struck him again!
He was her elder brother—her second brother, no less!
How dare she treat him like that?!
“Ms. Oracle!” Saul, Drake’s ever-reliable butler, rushed over, but it was too late; the elevator was already descending, taking Venus away from him.
Drake had instructed Saul to escort Venus home, and with a resigned sigh, Saul pressed the button for the next elevator.
“Sir, were you looking for Venus?” Neil inquired, attempting to maintain a polite facade, even though his heart raced with confusion and irritation.
Saul glanced at him, recognizing Neil as Drake’s brother. His voice remained cool, almost indifferent. “Yeah. Why do you ask?”
Neil’s expression hardened. “Did Venus come to the hospital to see you?”
“Ms. Burn came to see Mr. Drake. Got a problem with that, Dr. Burn?” Saul replied flatly, his eyes betraying no emotion.
“N-No, not at all.” Neil stammered, feeling a wave of bewilderment wash over him. So, Venus hadn’t come here to stir up trouble for Lumi?
It was hard to believe!
Driven by a mixture of curiosity and suspicion, Neil rushed to the security room, demanding to view the footage of Venus’s visit.
As the video began to play, he felt his heart drop.
He had been so certain that Venus’s arrival at the hospital was to confront Lumi, but the footage revealed a different story entirely. Venus entered the building alongside Saul, heading straight to Drake’s VIP ward without even glancing in Lumi’s direction. Not once did she approach her.
Chapter 36: Checking the Security Footage
Neil’s expression darkened, a heavy weight settling in his chest.
For the first time, he realized he had completely misjudged Venus.
“Dr. Burn, you don’t seem to be in the best shape. Should I call for another doctor?” Saul’s voice broke through his thoughts, laced with concern.
Neil waved him off dismissively, stumbling out of the room, his mind racing. Venus’s expression had hinted at something deeper—perhaps a flicker of hurt, or even vulnerability.
No way! That must have been an act!
