Chapter 55 Acting Pitiful
“Well, that does make sense. Venus didn’t know what was inside, but Lumi did know it was fragile porcelain. Shouldn’t she have handled it carefully?” someone in the crowd murmured.
Another added, “Even if Lumi was careless, she meant well!”
People began discussing loudly.
Seeing the tide of opinion starting to shift, Lumi hurriedly said, “Venus, you’re right. It was my fault for not thinking it through. I apologize; I’m really sorry!”
She immediately bowed to Venus right there, looking completely sincere.
Someone sighed in admiration. “She’s indeed the daughter of the Burns. She’s so polite and well-mannered!”
“Seriously! She’s the one who lost her custom gift for Rayne, yet she’s still apologizing to Venus.”
With everyone talking, they started blaming Venus again, praising Lumi for being beautiful and kind-hearted.
Venus raised an eyebrow, her tone light and amused. “I don’t accept your apology.”
Lumi was stunned for a moment. She had been hearing lately that Venus had changed completely.
Now, it seemed it was true.
The old Venus would’ve stammered and swallowed her words, never daring to talk back.
“Then what do you want me to do for you to accept my apology?”
Venus pointed out the window. “Jump from here.”
Lumi was shocked. “This is the eighth floor!”
Venus smiled. “Don’t you like playing the innocent beauty card? If you really want to apologize
to me sincerely, then jump from here and show me your sincerity.”
Lumi frowned tightly, the distressed look on her face replaced by displeasure. “You’re deliberately making things hard for me.”
“Yeah!” someone shouted.
“Venus, don’t push it too far!”

“How dare the adopted one yell the real one to jump out a window? Who does she think she is!”
Everyone rushed to defend Lumi.
Venus said coolly, “Weren’t you making things hard for me with what you just did?
“You framed me with a few pretty words, turned everyone against me, and let them verbally attack me. Isn’t that the same thing?”
She scoffed, “If I were the timid old Venus, what if your few words had driven me to jump out of the window just now?”
In the past, whenever the Burns blamed her for everything, no matter how big or small the issue was, she felt hopeless.
She’d been so weak that even when she was wronged, she couldn’t defend herself.
The only way she knew to prove her innocence was through self-harm.
A strange look flashed in Lumi’s eyes. Yes, the old Venus would have panicked, desperate, and lost.
But, now…
Lumi studied her carefully.
Venus stood there, dressed in plain clothes, every movement filled with a relaxed confidence.
It seemed like these accusations couldn’t hurt her
anymore.
Lumi was about to say something when she saw a familiar figure around the opposite corner. A look of guilt and apology returned to her face. “Venus, I’m sorry. I didn’t realize that trying to help your relationship with Rayne would make you so upset. I truly wanted things to get better for you two, but you’re right. I was being nosy. I shouldn’t have used my own gift to ask you to lie.
“To make it up to you, here, this is my allowance for this month. Take it and buy Rayne a gift yourself.”
Saying this, she pulled a bank card out of her Chanel purse.
“Dad gave me this card. It has a million limit every month. I haven’t used much of it this month. There’s no password. Take it!”
Everyone instantly looked shocked and envious.

“Holy crap! A million a month? I’d sell my soul for that!”
“Ms. Lumi, do you need an assistant? I can carry your bags and do whatever
