“Little witch, what are you-” Before Mark could finish, a silver needle flashed across the air.

“Arghhhh!”

He screamed as his body went limp. Instantly, his strength vanished, and he collapsed onto the floor.

Vienna froze. “What did you do to him?”

Just one needle, and she took down a grown man in seconds.

That kind of power was terrifying. Could this really be the amateur healing skill Neil had mocked before?

Mark tried to move, but his arms and legs were like jelly. He looked up at Venus, panic spreading across his face. “What did you do to me?”

Venus stayed calm. “Your sister doesn’t want to see you. So crawl out of here and don’t show your face around here.”

“Ava!” Mark shouted, his voice shaking with anger. “I’m your brother! Without me, who’s going to take care of you?”

Ava’s eyes were filled with despair. “The moment you threw Mia and me out of the house, you stopped being my brother. Even if I end up broke or alone, I’ll never beg you for anything again.

“The settlement money stays with my daughter. No one’s taking a dime!”

Mark stared at her like she’d lost her mind. “You’re crazy! Mia’s gone! Why leave money for someone who’s dead instead of the living?”

“I don’t ever want to see you again! Get lost!” Ava screamed like a madwoman.

Mark wanted to argue. When he saw Venus’s faint, knowing smile, a chill ran down his spine.

“No matter what, you’re still my sister,” he said through clenched teeth. “But if you want me gone, fine. Fix me!”

Venus pulled the silver needle from his forehead.

Mark tried to stand, but his body was still weak, his knees wobbling.

“Why can’t I move right?”

Venus said lightly, “I told you to crawl out of the hospital. Once you’re outside, you’ll recover.”

“What?” Mark’s face turned red. “You want a grown man like me to crawl out? What about my pride?”

“Sure, you can refuse,” Venus said, shrugging. “But you’ll end up half-paralyzed.”

“You bitch!” Mark’s teeth gnashed in fury. “I’ll remember this! You’ll for it!”

With no other choice, Mark got down on all fours and crawled out of the room, humiliated beyond words.

Vienna glanced at Venus. The moment she saw her standing there, she knew the settlement agreement was as good as gone.

This bitch was infuriating.

It wasn’t even her business, but she acted like she owned the place. Even Ava’s family didn’t show up this faithfully.

Ava noticed the fear in Vienna’s eyes and spoke up right away. “Dr. Byrne, I will never forgive your brother, and I will never sign any settlement agreement.”

Vienna frowned. “But you promised me. You said, If you could walk again, you’d agree to a settlement.”

“I did,” Ava said evenly. “I said if you could cure me. But tell me, did you? The one who healed me was Ms. Oracle.”

Vienna’s face froze. She felt her pride crumble. Her voice turned cold. “Ms. Clayton, just go straight to the point. How much compensation do you want to settle this?”

“My daughter is gone,” Ava said, her eyes blazing. “If you think a human life can be measured in money, fine. I’ll take nothing-not a single cent. All I want is for the killer to pay with his life.”

Vienna’s expression darkened. “Ms. Clayton, that’s unreasonable.”

“Unreasonable?” Ava shot back, her voice trembling with fury. “He killed my daughter. But I’m the one being unreasonable for wanting justice? If debts must be repaid, then a life must be repaid with a life!”

Vienna studied the plain woman before her. Ava was fierce, different from the timid and obedient woman she’d read about in the reports.
